Anyone had any dealings with complaining to army painter?, bought a pot of quick shade from ages ago and shaded some models just before a tourny (literally 3 days before), they were of course mega shiney (even offered the shiney army award.....).
Anyway after I bought a can of anti shine matt spray, been sat on my desk for quite some time and gone to use it tonight on the above models after watching a youtube vid of how light and easy you have to spray it on your models and as well as dipping over 100 models. Open the can to find there is no nozzle, not even the plastic sleeve going into the can!, so it is totally useless, have sent a email to them to complain.
Luckly I have another can on order and its not exactly much money but will annoy me if I have to throw it away, seeing as I sort of have to dip my whole army now (already started, any point in stopping!?), I have already got 3 cans of dip and another can of dip and spray on order so its going to start to add up soon!
Thanks

Yeah, army painter seems to be rather hit and miss.
I got the army painter paint set as part of my dreadball kickstarter.
The brushes literally fell apart as soon as I opened them - I had to tape the fumerole back on. Then, in a nearly massive disaster, the nozzle for the generic, unlabelled 'green' paint wasn't even attached. If I wasn't so paranoid after the brush incident, I could have ended up coating my tray, table, jeans and floor green.

Nah mate, I bought one can of army painter and the nozzle blocked working about a second of spraying no amount of unblocking with a needle got it going again. Never bought another can again, the few models I managed to spray with the primer chipped so easily anyway. I switched to Vallejo primer and an airbrush after that.
By the way the nozzle and stem are one part so it was probably only one bit missing.

Of course you should complain. Whether or not the can was expensive doesn't matter. I've never had any problems with Army Painter though.
Good luck, man. Keep us updated. I hope they'll deliver, because they are one of my favourite mini-gaming company.

Ah that reminds me, yea I bought the starter set as well, the one with the 8 paints 3 brushes and free gold paint, the paints are ok, gold is very nice though and has done all my sang guards, the brushes were crap though, now got red sable kolinsky ones and so much better!.
Cheers Notprop, wished I never started to dip my models, seeing how many I have to do and its not quite a few shakes its a lot more and quite hard, I am going to have a popeye arm soon!, I wanted to try out the anti shine to see the difference between that and my other models, if I could get away with no dipping any more!!, without the anti shine they are very shiney....

I've honestly never had an issue with Army Painter, though I might just be lucky. I've used a few of their spray primers (namely Pure Red and Grey), their brush on matte varnish, their new inks and some of their brushes.
None have caused issues, so I guess I should consider myself pretty lucky? I don't use their brushes anymore simply because I don't like the filament length, but thir paints have never let me down. The fact that strongtone ink is basically a 1:1 match to devlan mud actually saved my Tyranid army.

I had an issue with them about 6 months ago, bought a brush and it was split from the start. I emailed them and they sent out a replacement. I had it in about a week.

Not sure what your hoping to get out of this thread but here are some misc thoughts?
I assume you bought the product directly from army painter and not from a local store?
You mentioned you sent them an email to complain...did you send some angry rage email about the crap product or did you send them a polite email asking how to go about getting a replacement can?
How long ago did you email them? Being the holidays and all they might have a longer then average response time

Thats good to hear buddy, hope I get the same sort of service.
Ironic,
Have I really 'raged' here? of course I sent a constructive email explaining the situation and asking how do i go about sorting this out?. The reason I ask about the complaints procedure is it is the first time i have looked at their website, the only email contact information on there is for two guys direct, assuming managment or owners, this suprised me as I would have guessed it was a bigger company. Really, I am not going to bother replying about it being Christmas.
The purpose of this post to see if you anyone else has had any issues like this, of course AP will have had issues as any company will do. IMO, from when I ran my company which sold products on line, the way I judge a company is not by how well a transaction goes, it is by how well problems are resolved, every company is the world has problems with certain transactions from time to time thats a given, its how they sort them that counts, this post to to get a idea of that.

I've never tried dipping before so not experienced any shiney problems but would suggest Testors Dullcote. It's a good spray matte varnish, so will loose the shineyness and protect your models for gaming too. You can't get it from Antenocitis workshop amongst others. Alternatively i use W&N Galleria soluble matte varnish, I pump it through an airbrush but it is brush able too. You can get that from Hobbycraft in Chelmo, think they have a sale on too ATM.
Finally why don't you make your own dip, its really just a wash afterall. There is a good recipe for washes on the Les Bursley website, if you knock up enough of it you will be able to dip in it hopefully with no shine. http://www.awesomepaintjob.com/index.cfm/resources.recipes

First of all, USE TEST MODEL FIRST! but on another note as someone who has experance buying alternative caps for spaypaint cans, try using a cap from any spraypaint can (I bet an old GW primer can cap would work great). Just pull the cap off and the stem will pop out of the little hole, place it in the armypainter cans little hole, and spray upsidown for a few seconds to clear whatever was left the the replacement cap you used. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

The dip stuff comes out much thicker, shinier, and darker than I had initially thought it would. I'm not saying it's a deal breaker, but I'll definitely have to play with it to get the level of shade proper. Considering building some sort of attachment for my Dremel that will let me spin-dry models.
I've also got a can of silver and a can of their space wolf grey equivalent on the way, so hopefully those don't suck. I know a guy who got good results with the silver on his necrons, so I'm hoping mine turns out the same.

I tried dipping my first models when I tried out the army painter stuff and didn't like the result. However, I did get much better results for me by painting the 'dip' on with an old brush. Plus, the can then lasts a lot longer, which considering the price is a good thing.
I've used Testor's Dull Kote, the Army Painter anti shine (had it fog up on me once) and my other go to is Krylon Matte spray that I had a can of after an art class I took and just kept on buying it since it's not stupid expensive, gives good results, and does a good job for me.

I got a green primer spray from them from a great Au shop, The Combat Company.
Generally i basecoat bout 5 or so models at a time and think I got 2 jobs out of the can before the nozzel fouled and about two thirds of the can wasted.
The good bit of the experience was I countacted Combat Co and they organised for a replacement can immediately, was with me in the post a few days later.
Unfortunately that cans nozzel also fouled up midway through its second job.
First can I was happy to assume was my fault, although never had problem other cans, but second can I followed instructions to the letter and really shook it up before using, always sprayed out residual etc.
For me Armypainter basecoat spraycans are now a product to avoid.

So as an update, the Grey Wolf color is awesome. I wish I could figure out which GW color matches it perfectly.
From the test spray of the Platemail color, I'm impressed so far, but I have yet to spray any real models.
