Does anyone own one of these beauties? Or does anyone hold some knowledge around them such as recommended sites for these types of items. Really want one but I dont know what the companies are like as I dont want to buy one and the bull has its horn chopped off when its alive. I would prefer a dead one used for food, I wish no unessecary harm on a live animal. So I ask does dakka have any tips for me in drinking horns?

That's where my buddy bought the replacement one that was stolen by another fraternity...
Oh after reading the OP I realized that you care about the animal... well feth... um... that would require more research, though if you know what you're looking for, a good search should help you more than dakka...

Is that actually a thing? Because I'm pretty sure that all de-hornings are done when the bull is still a calf, and y'know, easy to handle because it's still small and weak. De-horning an adult live bull with big enough horns to be made into a drinking horn would definitely fall under my heading of 'things that really really suck."

The horns are bone (on cows/bulls).
It's common to de-tip at least the more aggressive bulls. If they are too aggressive, then off to the slaughterhouse they go.
Some bulls are more territorial and aggro than others.

Cheers guys, so de-horning is done when they are calves? how long can their horns grow when they are a calf as you can buy drinking horns which are 20"+
I read on a couple of sites that you know, the horns are produced fairly and from bulls which go to the slaughterhouse but I dont 100% trust the words on the website haha so was just wondering if anyone has bought one before. I would think amazon would be quite reliable?
Aye I do love tankards and steins too but wanted to add something else to the collection
Trying to think where else I can ask around haha as none of my friends or family own one, I think I am the only one who is in to those types of things

Calves won't have any horns when they get dehorned. Just small little bumps under the skin. Dehorning involves cauterizing the hornbud. A little blood and thats it really.
As for the websites claiming they are from bulls that go to slaughterhouse, I imagine its from outside the US, but I doubt they would have any reason to lie. Bulls are dangerous animals and are usually dehorned because of that because of safety concerns, in the US anyway. and even without their horns Dairy Bulls are still the most dangerous animal in north america.
Removing the horns from a live cow wouldn't be an inhumane thing to do. Cattle have almost no pain receptors on the top of their heads because they use their horns for fighting. In fact most horned mammels have a lack of pain in that area. If they removed the horn partway up and not where it attaches to the skull it would be just like clipping a toenail. Seditives for animals are also cheap and easy to administer.

Lol
But seriously, there is a reason they can't keep female cows within several miles of a Bull facility. No fence made by man can keep a hormonally enraged bull from a female.

Or a soccer mom from a shoe/pantsuit sale...
But with this new info, "Guilt-free" drinking horns don't exist... Just buy one off of amazon. Make sure you get one with the unscrewable tip so you chug it through that and blow the horn to let everyone nearby know of your impending intoxication!

De- Horning is done to more then just Calves for the kind we had. Most could be taken care of when young, but some would still grow them.. There are kinds of Cattle that are made to grow them. (Texas Longhrons for Example)
How it is done if the adult grows the horn after is not what i would call Humane in any way.
You basically took a special set of Pruning Sheers, and just lobbed the horn off. You would then Cauterize the wound shut to stop the bleeding.
Now for the ones selling Said horns, i imagine they would get them from a Slaughterhouse. From said type of Cow that had proper horns.
