Hey dakkas!

Just purchased possessed CSM, and going with White Scars as possessed CSM theme (mainly going with the flow)

Wanting to try out white painting tech, but I'm worried about washes. I have few old, few new and... not to mention I'm planing to build them on a snowy bases, so would blue wash such as drakesomethingsomething or that blue glaze which is practically thinned wash, be of any use here?

You can understand that I'm quite worried will the blue wash look any good with white armor, some red flesh here and there, golden/silver armor parts and few skulls on the side?
Mainly for the armor parts ofc, keeping into recess areas only.

P.S. I'm not into buying soft body wash cause I'd have wait for it to arrive (unless I can make one myself?)

White is a tricky one. To be honest, I wouldn't bother with a wash for armour plate. I use Vallejo Model Color Silvergrey, highlighted with white, and shade any crevices by adding grey to the base colour as necessary.

(not my models, but done using the same technique).

If I were going to use a wash, I'd use a black or grey wash (by mixing paint with a wash medium) and then go back over the flat surfaces with white to tidy them up.

You can use a bluish base coat (a mix of Ceramite White and Celestra Grey, if you use the current paints) for a cool white or an ivory base (a mix of Ceramite White and Zandri Dust or Rakarth Flesh) for a warm white.

If you want a slight blue touch to you paint perhaps base coat with space wolf grey then use skull white as your final colour or try basecoat dehnab stone wash it with a very thinned out devlan mud then build bck up using dehnab stone then bleached bone then final highlight skull white..

Maybe I've explained myself wrong, didn't actually meant washing the armor plate just the recesses to give it somekind of visual if any, then fixing up the mistakes.
I'm going for 'from the warp' technique. Have skull white spray, just need to find fitting wash.

I tried spacewolves gray diluted with water on my apothecary but It did not give the shading I wanted. It was too bright to see the difference. Maybe I should try codex grey of fortress grey with water?

Black wash diluted with water (nuln oil I think its called...) gives way too messy look on model. Looking something clean yet visable

Yeah.. Its actually a good idea but I've said no to layering white. Its pain in the -I may try SW grey to white someday, but I've got a skull white spray for now.

If they are possessed i wouldnt expect them to keep there armour very clean anyway. i would go with thinned nurn oil or the new dev mud/sepia/ogrynflesh. but keep it light and in areas that would leak.

though that may not be the style you are looking for.

If it's just for shading the recesses, pick any colour of paint and thin it a bit with water. If it ends up where it shouldn't, just overpaint it with the underlying colour again.

What's the new equivalent to Shadow Grey? The base colour for Space Wolves? Try that.

Space Wolf Grey isn't pale enough; try half and half Space Wolf Grey and white as a base coat. If you get it right, all you need is a single highlight of pure white and it's good.

Agreed. I actually like the suggestion, but how do you pick the color for the washes?
I want it to be able to fit or blend with the white to actually look like they're shadows, and not some weird fluid coming out of their insides.
As far as I know washes are here to pop out details but what about choosing the color on white?

I have all three devlan mud, sepia and flesh -and I know that devlan mud is more for rusty part while sepia gives vibrant colors, ogryn... well I haven't had much testing with that.
Isn't washes supposed to provide shadows or something? Which is why I'm confused with 'pick any color' and thin it down for wash

Actually if you want to be able to blend with the white, it may be best to start the entire project grey/light grey > wash black > carefully paint back over with light grey to white leaving areas that would be shaded darker. That’s basically all I can come up with because slathering on any wash on white will stain it. At least that is my experience.

Would suggest a test model like an extra arm piece or legs and see what works.

No, it is a pale gray.

Check the recesses of the cloth.

Also, check out this article about washes you can make. Great stuff here.
