how does the Eldar guardian weapon platform work? From what I understood is if 2 crew members are killed then the weapon is removed, seeing as there are no dedicated crew members how does this work, it would be ridiculous if say 3 guardians die and you couldn't just replace the crew but that is what it seems like to me

Welcome to having an old codex. If the 2 models designated as the gunners die the platform ceases any use.

This is actually a good thing. You can have two people in the squad share a weapon which makes it twice as hard or harder to snipe. Every single other army only gets one guy with a gun.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

You can have 4 guardians in front of the squad to take hits from shots before the guns do at t7 (as long as they are not assaulted), have the 3 guns behind them taking hits at T7 with 2 wounds, then have 2 guardians and your warlock chilling in the back shooting.

The warlock gets the added benefit of being able to fire the artillery at his BS (assuming it's one that uses BS) Artillery rules let you use your extra guys as shot fodder at T7.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about Guardian Weapon Platforms, which would be the heavy weapons platforms not the support weapons and therefore no T7.

Your way of using the support weapons platform does sound good tho! : )

Damn, I knew Eldar were a hard army to work with and get right but when it's something a simple as a little weapon platform and even that has issues, I think Eldar are even more screwed than I thought. Oh well, i'll persevere.

What are you seeing as an 'issue'? Your infantry units have heavy weapons that can be fired on the move, and you need to lose two crewmen before you lose the gun, which is a bonus that nobody else other than Guard (sort-of) gets on their standard heavies.

Ah! Oh I see. Ooops. I thought he was asking about Artillery.

Yes the guardian defender weapon platform basically just takes zero space in transports, essentially does not count as a unit other than for coherency purposes and makes all of the weapons on it assault (you can shoot a scatter laser at full BS when moving, can shoot a template from the missile launcher when moving, etc)

You draw line of sight and measure the shot from the guardian shooting the gun regardless of where the gun is in the unit.

Am I missing something? You say I have to lose 2 crewman, 2 guardians are easy to kill seeing as they have essentially the same stat line as guardsmen. Don't get me wrong moving and shooting at full BS is awesome but if the opponent only need to take out 2 guys then that isn't overly difficult. Yes I can put the weapon at the back but what about snipers, out-flankers, deep strikers and barrage?

Now compare that to every other codex with a heavy weapon that loses it when a single specific model is killed.

Which means you're no worse off than Guard... and have heavy weapons that can fire on the move.

The Guardian kit comes with two models for the crew men. LOS is traced from either one of them. Where the platform sits is immaterial. It's just a marker. In 5th those gunners would always be the last to die. Now where you place them is a little more important.

Just don't place them to close together. I always did opposite sides of the squad, with a couple guys before them. It increases the field of fire/range depending on where the target is and terrain, and protects the gun for a bit longer, and occasionally forces your opponent to use more assets than he normally would to kill the gunners/squad.

All the worlds a joke and the people merely punchlines
