I love the BA fluff and the models but I hate red. Would it be heresy to paint them my favorite color blue? I'm not a huge fan of the UM but I love their colors.

There's nothing stopping you, but some fluff fanatics would squeal "Heresy", yes. If you care what others think, the simplest option would be to invent a BA successor chapter who use blue as their main colour (perhaps still using some red somewhere, e.g. shoulder pads) but otherwise use BA rules. If you do go blue, I'd suggest not using ultramarine blue, to avoid confusion and needless comments.

I have seen a checker pattern of blue and yellow BA army in one tournament and at first it was confusing as H**l. If you really intend on using blue, add red to the shoulder plates and maybe to the helmets or atleast somewhere. Even the lamenters paint scheme is a bit confusing IMO, even if according to the fluff. One option is to make a DC army and paint it all BLACK!

Paint them pink with greed dots if you want to. They are your models and if someone whines, let them whine or whine back.

Do not listen to anyone. If you want to paint them blue, go for it.

Make them a BA successor chapter whose armours are blue to symbolize they're blood's been drained. Or something.

Fleet based sucessor chapter, the blue could represent de-oxygenated blood because of the vaccum of space?

Or they've had their blood drained because of some past mis-deed as a sign of repentance.

"Royal Blood Angels" I like that! tho the mixing of gene pool is generally a bad Idea, I like it

Who cares what other think? as long as you like them that's good enough. do some test models and see how it works out. Besides, All blood angels are red, lets get some variation out there!! I think your idea is flipping awesome! I would like to start an army like that.. but that's plagiarism

I say DO IT!!

use your inspiration and create the Water Angels, or something like that without the idea of ten thousand crying marines... wich on the other hand would be a cool modeling project! :p

but codexes and paint schemes exist for those who want to follow existing lines. you can divert from that in any possible way, if only it has some logic to it. examples are CSM using SW codex and renegade guardsmen legions using IG codexes but being chaotics. (and many more)

as long as your fluff covers it you can play guard with a marine codex(HIGHLY trained vets or something) or you can use orks with a tau codex(gotta think of something REAL crazy if those greenskins can shoot that good)

what I want to say with this, is that they are just guidelines, but as long as your opponent agrees you can go as far out of the box as you want, something I encourage people to do!

so wether your marines are red or blue or pink or yellow, its not a problem at all.. be a bloodcrazed ultramarine company, or somekind of mixbreed between BA and ultras, whatever you think is funniest and most original

good luck painting!

The Emperor's Tears as a Chapter?

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

No one can stop you and if they try, tell them where to go

As mentioned provided you ensure people know they are Blood Angels before a game they can't really complain.

As for colouring them blue, if you make them a successor chapter/founding then no one can even complain of fluff heresy

This also gives you more license to create your own fluff/conversion/painting opportunities whilst letting you continue to keep ties/rules with the Blood Angels.

If you do go ahead with it, make sure you show us how it's going

That does have a nice ring to it.

Agreed. They're your miniatures, not somebody elses. If somebody chooses to complain, then they're only whining to hear themselves.

Blue, green, purple, magenta, whatever you want dude. I would agree avoiding Ultramarine blue for simplicity sake, but do whatever you want. Half this hobby is the miniatures themselves.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?
