So the rulebook I have is probably from 2006. I was reading that the hobbit is the newest up to date rulebook etc etc. $85 for the rulebook!!! This is INSANEI feel like I would be better off buying the escape from goblintown game and getting the rulebook from there with a few minitures with it! Anyone have any ideas of how I can get a rulebook without breaking the bank?

Dont buy it from Gw try some of the other websites, like the war store etc.. escape from goblin town's rulebook is incompleate and can only be used really with the Boxed set, unless used with the BRB.

or the other obvious annoying answers: Save up etc.

Sorry i could'nt help more.

Mainly found in the LOTR section.....

No worries. I'll check out the warstore, I've had very pleasant dealings with them in the past!

Also to note the mini rulebook does not give you stats, points, scenarios etc.

Depending on which source book you have, you may be able to use the pocket size Hobbit RB. For example, for my Angmar army there were no differences that I could see between the profiles in my source book and those in the BRB. Another poster has confirmed that there was some change in Gandalf from the source book.

Also the pocket RB has the 6 standard scenarios, but I'm sure that like the BRBs for the other 2 systems, there are more in the hardback.

There'll be a new game and rule book in a year, then another after that, then a completist's version they year after that.

You might just want to wait.

Unfortunatly More than likly true Kid, Just a shame they don't just release additional supplements at a lower cost only including the Armies & Scenario's from the other movies as there released.

Pity. Still. I would personally say it was money well spent on my half.

the rules haven't even changed-maybe a few model rules have but you get the codex thing for that
and the army list build but I already know how to do that
its not like 5th to 6th where the rules change

I'm totally shocked at the prices. I really don't know what to say about how much the white council set of 4 miniatures costs. 60 euros for 4 static miniatures:

From what I heard, some rules changed e.g. elven swords.

Kudos if you could tell me the name of the list builder you use, I'm really looking for one!

Yeah but I play hobbits and they didn't change at all
my system for list building I made myself, I never even considered making it for the whole game nor giving it out to people...

Sigvatr, this website has a good army builder and also a good win % calculator for duels. It is a little weird to use but I personally like it.

The rules have changed- a little. There are more types of heroic actions than there used to be. Some new spells, some changes to old spells. Not enough to really call it a new game, it's LotR v.1.5, maybe.

The worst bit is GW couldn't be bothered to include a list of the changes, no, they just say, "It's well worth reading through all of the rules, even the ones that seem familiar, as there are plenty of changes and updates, all designed to make your gaming experience more enjoyable than ever." C'mon, guys. It might have taken all of a page and a half.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

they could have FAQ'ed it, but no 100 dollars for a rulebook that contains a lot less then what the old one did (that went for less, and gave you so much more) seems to be the norm
what I don't understand is what they filled it with, it can't be fluff, the fluff is just the Hobbit, one book, they don't own.
I guess its pictures

The warstore has the Hobbit rulebook for 70.00. Still expensive, but less than MSRP

You might as well buy the big rule book as everyone has forgotten that the difference between Lord of the Rings/ Hobbit and 40k is that in Lotr they only release new rules if there is a new film out/models and with 40k they bring out a new box set if the rules are needing updating and if an old army has been updated dramatically.

Yeah, but there is still 2 more years of new movies, and I don't trust GW not to bring out a new rulebook in 11 months.

They won’t bring out a new rule book but they might release new source books that are relevant to the Hobbit because to be honest most of the models they have release cannot be used in many Lotr games unless you already have a Hobbit themed army. I’ve already bought the big rule book for £50 and I am going to wait until they release the new models for Thorins Company possibly in Finecast.

No, they probably will, LOTR style. If not, a new box.

They might release a new box set but the rules will not change.

They barely changed throughout the first three movies but that didn't stop them from putting out a new book each one. Actually just releasing the one hardcover book to cover the 3 movies would make sense, but unless they've come out somewhere and said it won't change next year I just don't trust them not to. I'm not saying they will, it just isn't something I feel like betting $85 on.

I doubt they'd release a whole new £50 hardback, full-colour book three times in as many years- I reckon film sourcebooks. If they are, it'd be another step away from the customers and towards a pile of money.
Though here's to hoping for a new box set (not sure what they'd do for the second one- white council stuff won't have enough models and mirkwood spiders will have the same heroes as this one), but I'm definitely looking forward to the battle of five armies box set (here's to hoping for Dain, iron hills dwarves and a crapton of goblins/wargs- maybe even Beorn)
