Recently discovered Dan Abnett's Gaunt Ghost series and am really enjoying it. I notice that the Tanith minis GW once made are now discontinued.

I'm surprised GW hasn't made Gaunt at the very least a Hero character for the IG codex like Harker. Was there a falling out between Dan Abnett and GW? ? A legal dispute? Seems a shame that this colorful character is not included in the IG Codex.

He was in the last one. Apart from Yarrick they moved away from individual special characters, focusing more on SCs in squads rather than ICs. I think. There may be another I'm forgetting.

And as to a falling out, he's still writing the books since the guard codex came out, so I doubt it, but someone more up on their BL-GW lore can help out there.

Just writing novels under the 40k license doesn't really mean that the vision they contain is "shared" by the studio. As Gav Thorpe once explained on his blog, GW will adopt what they like and deem compatible, actually citing Gaunt's Ghosts as an example for how the franchise works.

It is possible that the Ghosts no longer fit into the vision the studio has now, but as I don't see any retcons in the Codex fluff that would invalidate the Tanith, I think it is more likely that they simply did not sell very good. Or it was a decision based entirely what should be fielded as per the game rules.

Or perhaps the Tanith get made into Fai- err, Finecast, if they weren't already. Several minis have been removed from the catalogue in the past, only to show up again as FC a couple months later.

Also they aren't discontinued in aus, they are just under collectors. US could be different though

Still available, they're just listen under "collector" because they no longer have rules. Gaunt was a special character in the previous IG codex and I used to have the WD giving rules for all the individual characters.

Plus, it's not like GG's were a "line". It was more "a couple of collectable guardsmen".

Really, it was just 6 models. Were there heavy or special weapons, or anything for vehicles or... well... anything other than just those 6 models (three of which are non-repeatable in your army)...

On the subject, what do you guys think the likely hood of vostryons being continued is. I personally thing they are awesome but I have a sinking feeling that GW will just keep catachans and cadians.

They'll keep all the other Guardsmen models but move them over to Finecast eventually.

The Tanith were metal. They were "discontinued" like all of the old metal lines were. Remember the Imperial Guard is/was the single largest model range in 40K, with fully 11 different model ranges since 2nd Edition.

Once the move was made to plastic, it made much more sense to condense the Imperial Guard into the two existing plastic ranges. I can't imagine that the Imperial Guard ever sold enough models to justify the cost of maintaining that number of ranges.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Considering that they came out in 2007 and haven't had a new model since, I think the current range is all we'll get.

There weren't that many Tanith models, and there were never anything aside from the characters still available and a couple lasgunners. They (along with limited-edition Praetorians) are the only ones to be discontinued though, since you can still buy the other old metal ranges.

I actually wasn't including the Tanith in the 11 ranges, lol. They, like Attillans or Ogryns, etc are just specialty figures.

Sadly also in the more recent fluff GW tends to just constantly reuse the same (ie Cadian) Regiments as its easier than having mutiple lines.

On a similar note, I would like to see cheap plastic Valhallans, more of which wearing soviet style helmets, than the metal ones available as "collectables" Oh well.
