Hi, Katfude

Here's something that Alf wrote a few threads down:

The dreamer and LCB is "difficult" to master.

The basic strategy is known as the "Dreamer Bomb" which we'll get into in a bit.

Things to remember about the Dreamer and Chompy is that they get 3 actions shared between the two of them. They can never benefit from Fast (which gives them an extra general AP) nor can they be affected by Slow (which takes a general AP). So when Dreamer activates he generates 2 AP, his 0 Action and his Instinctual 0 Action. If he spends 2 AP, his 2 0 action points, and switches with Chompy, Chompy would generate his 2 AP (as per the rules), but he loses one of them because they're only able to use 3 general AP. Chompy still gets his Melee Expert (+1). That's how action points work with the two of them.

Earlier I mentioned the "Dreamer Bomb" which works like so: Dreamer starts the turn with 0 nightmares on the board. He activates, uses (0) 'I Can Fly', spends 2 AP walking 14 inches across the board, and then uses his Instinctual to bring out all the nightmares he can (getting his trigger off)*. He buries himself, and brings out LCB. This meant you could technically 'throw" LCB 6 inches from where the Dreamer buried. This was changed in the last round of errata and FAQs, LCB now has to pop up in b2b with the Dreamer. LCB can now take the remaining actions the duo has. He has 1 general action point, his 0 action, and Melee Expert (+1). Meaning he can walk towards something, attack, and then end his activation. If he gets the right suit, he can trigger, "All Done" which buries LCB and brings the Dreamer back out.

There is something else you can do and that's bring out all of your nightmares instead of LCB (you could bring all of them out at once, leaving Dreamer safely buried).

A "fun" 35ss list that you could use is the following:
Dreamer/LCB - Cache: 8ss
Teddy
Teddy
Teddy

you could add some daydreams if you wanted to, which would bring you starting cache down for some utility.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Also Colette is probably the hardest master for noobs, but Chompy and Dreamer are up there

She's harder to play then Leveticus? Man I gotta get back into the Malifaux swing of things.

Haha, good point lol I have levi, and haven't played him yet (he's still unassembled, cause I'm honestly a little afraid. Idk how to run him). But the most common master I hear bantered around as hardest learning curve is Colette for beginners.

Colette is hard only because she wins unlike any other "force/army/master" (that I can think of) in tabletop gaming... she doesn't attack the opposing force. She misdirects, delays and distracts them. Aside from a Corphyee duet she doesn't have access to anything that can do any real damage, and even the Corphyee Duet is far from a "tank" or "beatstick" style model and instead a fast moving razorblade....

So if you go into understanding what you are supposed to do with her and her crew, you'll do fine. It's when you try to play her like regular tabletop force that you will really suffer...

As for The Dreamer/LCB, he's okay as long as you get his (correct, as in post-errata) rules down. He has his Bomb tactic to utilize, but honestly, he's just a really fast moving Master that has a particular way of doing it... Since the post Bury errata has come out the Bomb is less important and you can get away with playing him more as a melee-centric Master with some movement tricks, just like the Viks or even LadyJ with Lucius....

Malifaux is centered around Movement gimmicks and timing, while Master like Collette can do so well... let alone Masters like The Dreamer/Zoriada/Viks/Misaki ....
