I love the look of these chaps/chapesses.

A few questions:
- Can I have Frenchies in the same army as Scotsmen?
- Are Caledonians any good?
- Is William Wallace any good?

And a general question:
- Is there a battlebox/Dark Vengeance style set for Infinity?

Welcome to Infinity!

Ill answer in order as best i can:

- Yes! In Vanilla/Generic Ariadna you can have anything (but with reduced AVA for most models).

-Do you mean the Sectorial? In that case yes, they seem to be, it depends on your playstyle of course, but in this game every Faction/Sectorial is good...There is a rather good Tactica done on the Caledonian Sectorial by tescos (sp?) on the Official Forum, ill try and find a link later (work blocked) unless anyone else can help?

-Cant help with Wallace im afraid.

- No, there are Starter boxes for each of the Factions/Sectorial (well most, not all of them have been released yet) but they arent Starter boxes in the sense that GW does them. While the Factions/Sectorial are superbly balanced against each other overall, the starter boxes are there to give you a flavour of the army you are buying, a few models that you will undoubtedly find useful many times as well as having some of the tricks/unique flavour fo rthat particular Faction/Sectorial. The starter boxes are not balanced against each other. They dont even add up to the same points, and in fact vary wildly. your best bet is to pick up the starter(s) with a couple of blister packs of other models you want and then make a 100-150 point army list using them if you want to learn the game for example...

Hope that helps!

Great, thanks! Do I get quickstart rules in the starter boxes or factions/sectorial boxes? Also, do I need another book for the profiles or are there cards a la Privateer Press?

Hi, welcome to the game!
You don´t need starter rules. All rules are free at the official infinity website.
I (as a PanO Player) hate the Scots. Think they are a very good force, William is good, too. But like said above it depends on your playstyle like everything in Infinity.

No worries, glad i could help!

There are no printed quickstart rules , but there are some kicking around on the Main Website (under the 'Downloads' tab at the top) which is where you can find the main, complete rules as well (and the wiki for quick looking up of the rules in case of rules debates).

The profiles are currently spread across the 3 Books:
Infinity V.2 (i think is the most recent),
Human Sphere, and
Campaign: Paradiso

But the easiest place to find them all together (and with the correct, updated points costs/stats) is in the Army Builder that is linked form the Main Site as well (also free to use). This hasnt been updated with the new stuff form Campaign: Paradiso yet, but it will be soon...

I'll take that link please, when you have the time!

I'm contemplating starting a Caledonian force.

It was the upcoming Wulver's Box set that has me thinking of one...

I usually say this: go for the looks. In Infinity there is no such thing as a useless unit. What people usually do is list all the models that they like, and play around with army builder if they can fit all those models in one force.

On my Haqqislam I just bought a Haqq Starter pack (making sure first i love most if not all of the models inside the box), then used the models I picked for the prettiness I won from a Dakka Painting Challenge. It turned out to be a competent list, even with the excess of sniper rifles. I just need to learn how to use them properly.

So pick all the models that seem cool, and buy the crap out of them. Then slap them together to form a force. That's the basics of it, mostly. I'm sure someone can explain it more eloquently or properly, but that is the gist of it.

The Campaign Missions are aimed for 300 point battles...But 100-150 is the standard for battles to learn the game from what i have seen (saying that, there are rumours of 75 point games to really simplify things)

You can't just nominate any model in the force to be the Lt, you have to use the specific Lt load-outs on the army lists.

Highlander Greys have an Lt option yes, but it's armed with a rifle. (All in all, there are relatively few Lt loadouts with heavy weapons, most have only "basic" equipment.)

The Highlander grey can not be the LT, your scout, volunteer with rifle, or zouave can be the LT. Did you build this army with the army builder from the website? If you did when you look at the troop selections if a model can be an LT it will be at the bottom of the list. The Highlander Grey with the AP HMG is not a LT option for the Greys.

Ok, I've changed it so that the Zouave is the Lieutenant, amongst other things.

Any other thoughts about the army?

It's good for a low-point game. Your Lt. isn't obvious which is important, since killing the Lt. will hurt anyone's army. Just enough SWC for a 150 game. And it has 7 orders, which is okay for 150 (unless there are Irregulars in those?). You will want to increase the number of orders as you go up points, usually 8 or more, but for a small game that's mighty fine.

You'll be hurting on orders right out the gate. You are currently sitting at 7 orders, but one of those orders starts off the board. You will start your first turn with 6 orders and the Paracommando can use his own order to come onto the board, but sometimes the first turn isn't always the most optimal time for him to come in.

However if you wanna go with a list like this you might as well save yourself some $ and go...

This would be the Metro Starter box + a scout and highlander. Plus you'd have a Zouave for when you go up in points. 150 is just the bare minimum game. You should aim for 300pts.

Caledonian Highlander Army Tactica by the esteemed tesco from the Official Forum:

http://infinitythegame.com/forum/index.php?/topic/12398-caledonian-highlander-army-tactica/

You can look at the Faix Ettention Ariadna Tactica by the equally esteemed Penemue as well, but note that some models play differently between the Generic Faction and the Sectorial (although as your list seems to be Generic Ariadna, this should come in useful as well)

Enjoy!

Also, I suggest starting with a starter box, as it's cheap, has many models and they are usually good models, i.e models that you'd buy anyway.

I suggest starting at 150 points, then playing 200 points games then 250, and only introducing TAGs at the 300 points level.

Try to go relatively low on the special skills on your models, get some easy models to play with at first and slowly add models with new skills each match.

t's not even the worst case of that problem. The Hunzakut has NO sculpts outside the Haqqislam starter sniper variant. There was an old Hunzakut with a rifle but that was also ONLY found in the old OOP starter!

They are 'Cheerleaders' for the most part (Cheap, Regular order generators), but also allow for a cheap Lt option, a relatively cheap RL option and some extra bodies in your force as well (remember just because they are armed only with Rifles as basic doesnt mean they cant take oout a TAG with some good rolls...). Beware the AP HMG, even though it looks good, it is extremely expensive on a LI model with 1 ARM (both in terms of points and SWC), and the lowly Line Kazak only has 11BS, there are better places to get this weapon....Note: This is not an exhaustive list as i cant even remember all of their loadouts....

I personally like them.

No not yet, when the Madr (Matr? Cant remember) Sectorial comes out (next book maybe? So a good couple of years away) then they will (should) be able to link.

In fact, i dont think you can even take them in any other Sectorial.... but they fairly easily proxy for Metros...

Line Kazaks are good. They have higher BS and WP and only cost out one point more. They lose out on the Multiterran ability that the Metros/Volunteers have but it's pretty situational. They don't have the Camoflague capabilities of the Metros/Volunteers though.
And in the upcoming russian sectorial they will most likely be able to form a link team.

I have a question, I'm thinking of branching out from my current armies and systems to include infinity, because apparently it has a decent following in my area.

I was thinking of Ariadna because I love the scots. I will be collecting a Caledonian Highlander Sectorial. I don't mind a steep learning curve if this army has one, I'm quite dogged when I get into something.

I was thinking of starting at 150 points (according to the guys at the store that is a common low level game to start at, and I'll be able to get a game in). How does this one look as a starter? Of these models, the only ones I definitely want to keep are the SAS and the Cateran, the rest I can be flexible with as I haven't bought them yet (I just love those 2 models too much). By my count and understanding of orders I will generate 7 orders, an irregular order and my LT's special order. That doesn't seem too bad. But I could be well wrong.

Anyway, here is my idea;

It looks like a decent enough list Motyak, the CRAP (Chain Rifle + Assault pistol) SAS is considered to be the best of the choices for the SAS (and you can take 4 of them ), adn T2 Sniper Rifle is an absolute beast (just be careful not to waste the single Combat Camo attack you get), you have some order monkeys and a heavy weapon to crack open any tough nuts...so overall not bad at all.

I would say however, that i think your Lt is pretty obvious (think the Volunteer Lt option has a rifle no?) and that may come back to bite you. Can you afford (with that last 4 points) to upgrade one of the Volunteers to having a rifle? This would also help give you something else in your list to be effective at mid range (something you may be lacking), you have plenty of Chain Rifles for short range, and an AP HMG and a T2 Sniper for long, but you are decidedly short on anything in between.

Overall though, damn good first list...
