WG termies to lead squads. If you know you are gonna take AP3 fire at some point, they are awesome? They can help keep the whole gunline alive longer with the new wound allocation rules. If they die, so be it. The
RPs can change squads to make up for lost leadership.
Personally I just don’t like mixing Saves in a unit, bur this might go back to some of my 4e and 5e mixed armor rules. I do add Wolf Guard Pack Leaders a lot, but unless I am looking for a “Special Weapon” I find them unnecessary and sometimes a Death Sentence to the WGPL do to him being susceptible to Challenges as were a Base Grey Hunters are immune to Challenges. When I rebuild my Wolf Guard “Pool” I will probably be including a lot of Power Weapons in place of the Thunder Hammers and Power Fist, this is the other reason I don’t have any.
I do understand the urge to max out on Grey Hunters, as they are THE unit that wins games for us Space Wolf players, but it may be worth putting points into other things as well.
Normally I do, recently it has been a Land Speeder Squadron with 3 Heavy Bolter armed Typhoons, but I though I would give them a break this game.
Is the Dreadnaught really worth 200 points as a distraction / fire magnet. I would assume, since it's your only real armored unit, that all enemy anti-tank weapons will target and kill it ASAP. Does it actually serve a better purpose than say, Thunderwolf Cavalry or Long Fangs?
Maybe TWC aren't necessary since your GH squads are some maxed out for melee. They should be able to drop what they need to. Long Fangs, on the other hand, seem to have more synergy with this list than the Dreadnaught. Even if you want to have an anvil type unit, why 1 Dreadnaught over 5 WG termies in a pod? With no upgrades, it's the same cost.
Once more it is more of an active choice to spare everyone form my Long Fangs, that and I needed something in a Pod.
Wolf Guard x5, TDA x5, Drop Pod (200 points total)
This is a though, in place of the Dread, I will see if I can pull off an Heavy Heapon.
I'm just throwing some ideas around. It looks like an alright list, especially if you have just the right amount of cover. I wouldn't think this list could challenge a strong IG or even Tau list though. There are lots of armies that will shoot this off the board, since it's so slow. Imagine trying to chase down a bunch of battlesuits with this list. It would be a royal pain. (I know you don't have to worry about that, since Tau are on the endangered species list)
Actually normally with this list I sit and let them come at me. This will actually be the first time in a
long time that I have played my pods.
Thank you for your time
