Which is the more common breakdown for larger armies? 2400 divides easier but I see a lot of lists at 2500. Which is more common in events and/or tournaments?

2500 is the best. You can break it down into two parts pretty easily then have 100 left over for reserves to support one half or the other depending on how the battle goes.

PS, why do you have money spent in your sig? It seems...silly to me. Does anyone really care that you have already blown $850 in one week?

ha. funny.

tournament sizes are either 35 or 50pts. Some limited tournaments (eg Gencon) do 75pt tournaments as the "masters final" kind of thing. PP changed the points scale when they brought in Mark2. and that was 3 years ago - you're a bit behind the times im afraid!

But no... 2500pts would have you playing until you're 90!

As a note, it is right now not by the rules possible I think to run a game with more than 850pts. if you are playing Cygnar (10 Faction warcasters able to be played together, 7 Mercenary ones after that that can legally be put in the army at once). They are fairly unique there, but I think Khador can get kind of close there.

It woudl also be the kind fo game that would make most players want to kill themselves at some point.

And stuff.

Although you can run an infinite amount of Warjacks, so any point total is possable. Of course you would have way more Jacks than anything else which would totally break the fluff.

Well kreoss2's tier-fire of salvation and 499 units of KE at 2500 plus a free seneschal. Sounds fun

Ahhh indeed. It does sound fun, but it would be a pain to keep track of each unit.

Doesn't eSkarre's Tier allow for FA:U Satyxis Raiders?

Or Goreshade's FA:U Bane Thralls?

Well I assume any list of over a certain amount would be multiple casters, but I guess Tier lists can get you unlimited infantry.

Here's a fun exercise:

Calculate the surface area of a standard 48*48 board in square mms

Then calculate the surface area occupied by a 50mm base. This is because Heavy 'Jacks actually tend to cover the least area per point. That is to say 'Jacks are the most efficient use of points when trying to occupy as little board space as possible.

Then calculate the number of Heavy 'Jacks (typically 6-9pts) you could bring at 2500pts.

Then just multiply the area of a single base by the number of bases you'd wind up bringing and double that number (2 players).

Can you fit it all on the board? If not, how big would your board have to be to fit them all on?
How long would the board need to be to fit a single army in a standard 10" deep deployment zone?
How big would the board need to be playable (say only 20% of the surface area actually covered with model's bases)?

2500 points isn't played on a 4'x4' board.

It's played in a school gymnasium.

GW Rules Interpretation Syndrom. GWRIS. Causes people to second guess a rule in a book because that's what they would have had to do in a GW system.

At least we have the rules to cover the situation via Unbound.

...I have to assume this was supposed to be in the WHFB section since IIRC a lot of WHFB tournaments are 2400-2500 points. I think even in MK1 Warmachine/Hordes army lists were generally like... 500 to 750 points.

I maek srs post and ruin everyone's fun!

I've never even seen anyone playing Unbound games but I've read about a couple of 100 and 150 point games.

Yea, yea. Good to see the Warmahordes guys are such talented comedians.

I'll PM a mod to get this moved.

To answer your actual question, 2500 is the norm. And 2500 divides nicely. 25% of 2500 is 625.

The norm will vary on where you play, in the UK for example 2400 is much more standard.

Personally though, I prefer 2500. The top armies get an extra 100pts of stuff, but weaker armies benefit more from the additional lord/rare points. For example, High Elves can use the 25 extra to make a much better Star Dragon, and Wood Elves can make a much more viable triple tree list (Annoyance on Ancient + Scroll on level 4 in lords, and double Treeman + eagle in rare).

All of the bent rare/lord combinations (double Abomb/Ironblaster/Slann/Grey Seer) can already be taken at 2400, as well as all their magic item toys, which is why I think they don't benefit as much.

Totally depends where you play, in my area it seems to be 2400 for tourneys, but then we get a lot of new guys moving over from 40k trying to play 1850 for some reason.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.
