It'd be nice to get a new Blastoise or finally finish the evolution chain and get a Squirtle figure.

I can finally buy more Pokéballs than the one master ball I own. I got it in a vending machine with a Zekrom phone charm, which then broke :(

I doubt it, but it'd be nice if they got close to these 3D renders some guy made.

Hopefully not so glossy.

I think of them as satin rather than gloss or matte.

So...SHINY!

Me want!

Also, I recognize the Pokeball and the Masterball, but I don't recognize the rest. What are the others and what do they do?

Yea I havnt played in so long Im sure Im messing some up. But I think the solid white with red stripe was that "commemorative ball" that really didnt do anything special. And the little green fella behind the white one is a bug ball? and I know the read and white with the yellow circles to the left of the white and green balls looks REALLY familiar but gak if I can remember

Yep those are right. A lot of those are the Gen II apricorn balls which were replaced in later games.

There's a list of them all here with pictures as well.

And that Mewthree thing is actually Mewtwo getting a new forme. Not much on the name, but it mentions Mewtwo awakening or something which is interesting, though I would have liked it if someone had taken team Rocket's research and tried to create a better Mew clone or if they resurfaced and had been in hiding creating this to try and regain some dominance.

So Mewtwo is like a Saiyan then? Depending on the power level its a whole new crazy hair cut?

Something like that, bunch of the other legendaries have stuff like that now triggered by either a move they learn, item they hold, battle condition or something in the world you use to switch them into that forme.

Kind of hope that means we'll at least see Mewtwo again in the new games.

Mewtwo with plot significance can mean only one thing.

Maybe Silver will take up leadership of Team Rocket. It's not like he totally redeemed himself, he was still pretty bad.

Thanks! So from what I gather, most of the Pokeball variants have particular types of Pokemon that they're better at catching (Heavy Balls catch heavy Pokemon, Net Balls catch Bug and Water type Pokemon, etc...) and some of the others improve the status and performance of a Pokemon inside (Heal Ball, Luxury Ball etc...) whilst some, like the Premier Ball, have no function beyond decoration.

I need to download some emulators and play the Pokemon games...

You do indeed. I recommend you start on either Emerald or Crystal. Emerald for the features, Crystal for 8-bit goodness.

So there are quite a few people around it seems that are well versed in the Poke realm. I'm looking to relive the glory days. (1st gen) but my Red version quit on me! Other than the graphics change did nintendo fiddle to much with Fire Red?

If you don't care about the deeper mechanics of the gameplay (which have changed A LOT), then no, not really.

IVs, EVs, two new typings, items, abilities, special attack/defense split, weather, breeding, natures, and a few other things. For the most part though, if you want to just catch pokemon and beat the main story, you can ignore almost all of these.

Alright solid! Thanks Fafnir. I found I had no interest in deeper when I knew what almost none of those new ones meant!

Id be interested in learning though if anyone feels up to abit of teaching!

Honestly, they're not worth worrying about unless you want to play competitively.

And in those cases, I'd recommend you use a simulator like Pokemon Lab instead, so you don't need to worry about wasting hundreds of hours just to breed/cap and train a pokemon with the right IVs and EVs.

I'd also recommend HG/SS if you go for one of the DS ones. Had quite a few features in it I liked, like the persistent touch screen menu, running toggle and even lead pokemon following you.
