Ok, so the prince and all four nobles go with the dragon princes. they run 5 wide, and when they get into combat, they all displace the command group. Archmage stays on a corner of the spear horde, gets into combat and just chills, then casts the 12" radius version of Savage beast. 31 attacks, at strength 9, with
ASF,
WS 6-7, and I 7-8, in every round of combat. Great saving throws on the entire group, each one can dish it out in a challenge, and if need be, I can break off the entire front line to go attack something else while the dragon princes do their thing.
And if push comes to shove, I can always just turn my mage into a dragon
