Elites:
Wolf Guard: x3 in terminator armor with power weapons and storm bolters 99
Troops:
Grey Hunters: x10 2 plasmas wolf standard 170
Grey Hunters: x10 2 plasmas wolf standard power weapon 185
Heavy Support:
Long Fangs: 3 lascannons 2 missile launchers 185
Long Fangs: 3 lascannons 2 missile launchers 185
Here you can just sit back and decimate the foe with your long fangs. The wolf guard are there to join the long fangs and give them a 2+ save up front.

Yeah that's right and the wolf guard is basically just a very variable unit that can split off to join other squads and act as squad leaders. Automatically Appended Next Post: Dreal wrote:no sw is a mid range army with a combo of cc and range
No not in this edition if you try to play like that you'll be annihilated.

HA! You wish your librarian was as good as our Rune Priest!
Wolf Guard have different roles depending on how you use them. They can act as Sergeants to bump leadership on your GH or BC, they can get put in Termi armour and do what other Terminators do or you can put them in Termi armour and attach them to different squads to soak fire to get your guys safely across the field or protect your LF.

If you really want to you can and still have a fairly good list in that case trade one of the grey hunter squads out for a five man squad with the razorback as a dedicated transport.

Well what I mean is for a thunder wold centered list you'd want a wild lord on a thunderwolf mount with saga of the bear to absorb the s10 hits and probably making several small grey hunter squads to put in razorbacks for some fast heavy fire support.

Yeah im just saying that the army should always focus on one thing if you want a sit back and shoot list do that or if you want a press forward and assault list do that. just don't go halfway.

Thunderwolf cavalry work well with drop pods also as you can drop some terminators and another squad in the enemies face turn one while the thunderwolves advance. Most players will concentrate taking out the drop pod squads which leaves the thunderwolves getting into combat unscathed. In an assault army like this its also nice to have 1 unit or long fangs to weaken the enemy before the assault, but keep them cheap with missile launchers as they will be isolated and destroyed in the later turns.

I never liked 5 man squads of GH, At the very least I'd have 8 GH with a Termi WG just to fit in the Drop pod. Which leads me to my next point. Yes Rhinos and Razorbacks are pretty much nuked by turn two but they only have to get halfway across the board since that's where a Space Wolf is at his best, mid range to CC combat and with counterattack you make them come to you.
On an assault list if you need to get close, i.e. Tau or IG, armies that don't want to get close and won't then a drop pod list is the way to go. I like to use mine in conjunction with an HQ that has Saga of the Hunter leading a full squad of GH with a TDA WG carrying an Assault Cannon or CML. Outflank on the board open up on whatever is closest and then next turn assault and rip apart anything left standing.

Hey there,
I've been playing Space Wolves for YEARS, and I can say that Thunderwolf Cavalry are definately viable, but ned to be used properly. I'd say if you are going to run TWC, run at least a couple Rhinos as well. I tend to run 2 squads of Grey Hunters in Rhinos pushing up to mid-field. The Thunderwolf Cavalry run behind the Rhinos. The second wave of Grey Hunters follows behind them on foor (with Terminator Wolf Guard squad leaders. Throw in a coupld squads of Long Fangs and you are good to go. An example of a farily standard 2000 point list like this would look like this--->
HQ - Rune Priest
TROOP - Grey Hunters x10, Plasma-Gun x2, Wolf Standard
TROOP - Grey Hunters x10, Plasma-Gun x2, Wolf Standard
TROOP - Grey Hunters x10, Melta-Gun x2, Mark of the Wulfin, Wolf Standard, Rhino
TROOP - Grey Hunters x10, Melta-Gun x2, Mark of the Wulfin, Power Fist, Standard, Rhino
FAST - Thunderwolf Cavalry x3, Storm Shield, Power Fist
FAST - Thunderwolf Cavalry x3, Storm Shield, Power Fist
HEAVY - Long Fangs x6, Missile Launcher x5
HEAVY - Long Fangs x6, Missile Launcher x5
HEAVY - Long Fangs x6, Missile Launcher x3, Lascannon x2
ELITE - Wolf Guard x5, TDA x5, Cyclone ML
FORTIFICATION - Aegis Defense Line
The Wolf Guard will al act as squad leaders for the 3 Lonf Fang squads and the 2 foot-slogging plasma toting Grey hunter packs. The Cyclone Missile Launcher one joins the Long Fangs with the Lascannons. The Rune Priest will also join this squad and use Divination. If you can remove another 50 points somewhere, maybe he could also man a quad-gun with the Aegis Line. (Worth doing, if he's gonna use biffer spells instead of psychic shooting attacks. The Thunderwolf provice CC support for all 4 Grey Hunter packs as they move up to dominate the mid-field. Usually I'll string the Aegis Line out into one really long line and put all of my heavy Support back there. If I'm up against a CC oriented army, I play more defensively. If I'm against Imperuial Guard or something, then I let the Thunderwolves chase my opponent down instead. Just remember, that in the open, they will fall to small arms fire. Having one of them with a Storm Shield standing up front to take wounds can help with heavy fire, but tehy will still die to mass bolter fire. Always try to keep them out of hamrs way, until they reach close combat. To do this, I move them behind Rhinos. If I'm not fielding at least 2 Rhino's I won't field Thunderwolf Cavalry either. Technically yu can move them up using Drop Pods for cover as well, but it's not as easy to pull off. If you want to add combi-weapons or a quad gun, I'd remove one of the Long Fang packs and add a redator tank to move forward between the Rhinos. They provide some great mobile fire support. For 85 points, 2 BS4 heavy bolters and an Autocannon on AV12-13, ain't bad.

There are a lot of good ways to run space wolves, and a lot of what has been posted is on point. Me personally I'd never take a rhino or razorback again in this edition. SW do "Steel Rain" better than anyone at the moment. Some of the more devastating lists I've used and seen used contain 3 or 4 drop pods. and the troops inside are 2x 10man GH squads and 2x 8man wolfguard squads combi weapons ouot the waazoo. 5pts a combi on a 18pt model is simple over the top. turn 1 you decide what you need to come in with 2 of your 4 pods and almost guarentee First Blood, a lot of games are won on the back of first blood. Wolf Guard alpha strike is crazy.

I do not remember what Master of Runes does so I wont comment but I know I have never used it. I think the at least one of those GH squads needs melta, if not both. Reason being is if you face a single LR list, you are done for. Lascannons are not reliable against them. I also think you can shave some points by only having 4 or 5 lascannons instead of 6. The difference is important at such low point levels. Good luck. The list is well balanced. I am a fan. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, if you can fit one more PA WG in to increase the Ld. of the second GH squad, that is huge. Ld 8 is a liability I always choose to mitigate.
