Daughters are wonderfully self sufficient for the most part, and can find a home with any caster. That said, they love a caster with defenders ward, as it can boost their DEF to ridiculous levels. If you're looking to start a Protectorate army, I'd recommend getting the Menoth Battlebox (or the two player battlebox if you can do something with the Khador half of it), as it comes with a few useful jacks and pKreoss - he's a good all round caster, and I find using daughters with him is pretty good. He as defenders ward, which works wonders with them as I mentioned, and his feat (which knocks everyone down) combined with their anatomical precision rule means that on feat turn, each daughter has two attacks that auto-kill living single wound models.

So yeah, he'd be a good place to start. Otherwise, you could go for Thyra, who's the Daughter of the Flame warcaster. She's a little more difficult to work with, but she does give Daughters in her army Vengeance.

As above, they work great with almost any caster.

I Disagree with Defender;s Ward on them, its a waste.

If you have a defenders ward caster, Its best to use the spell on Temple Flameguard or Errants.

Back to Daughters.

You can get Thyra and run a themed list with it.

Her theme list is quite nast on paper and I think its just as nasty in practice. With Advance Deploy and a run you can really jam up deployment zones early on. And anything that Advance Deployed will be engaged if you want it to be. Tie up that Magehunter Strikeforce before they can get to your caster.

TFG, certainly, though I think DW goes better on Daughters than Errants, though it depends whether your opponent has ways around high def. If your opponent doesn't have an easy way to buff attack rolls, Def 17 is extremely durable against most enemy infantry, and means they need 11s to hit. Meanwhile, the DEF of the Errants only gets pushed up to average levels, while their ARM goes up to 18. POW 12s, or boosted POW 10s (from charging infantry) will still mince even ARM18 with ease, so Unless they're being shot with POW10s or blast damage, it won't make a huge difference. Basically, High DEF is better than high ARM for most single wound infantry, unless you can push their ARM extremely high. The one things Errants have going for them with DW is they have a lot more bodies on the field, which is good, but I usually engage with Daughter first, then switch it to the Errants afterwards anyway.

That said, there are quite a few things which make DEF redundant, and when your opponent has those things, you use DW on the Errants (or whatever other unit you usually take) instead.
