I see them come up in the Space Marine and Dark Eldar codex and certain books every now and then, but I almost nothing about what they are or what they look like.

All I know is that they are confined to the Ghoul Stars by the Iron Lords Space Marines and that beastmasters use them to fight. And that they're "hyper-violent".

But that's it.

Anyone have any sources or images on what they look like or what they do other than kill stuff?

PM me if you want me to draw anything related to Warhmmer 40k. I will put it in my gallery for all to see.

Lexicanum is always good for starting search:

The Barghesi, also spelt Bhargesi, are an alien race known for being 'hyper-violent that inhabits the Grendl Stars constellation in the Eastern Fringe.

According to Imperial Records, the Iron Lords Space Marines Chapter proved instrumental in confining the Barghesi to the Grendl Stars, and also in preventing the destructive biological potential of the species from being harvested by Hive Fleet Kraken.

Barghesi, captured by Dark Eldar Beastmasters, are occasionally used for bloody hunts and displays in the gladiatorial Wych arenas of Commorragh.

To me it seems like another alien race, but rather then being destroyed by Imperium they are being contained to their homeworld. Dark Eldar also seems to like then are are constantly raiding them to use them as gladiators. Other than that there is nothing else, just a minor alien race.

But this is quite strange, why didn't the Imperium simply annihilate them but choose to quarantine them instead?

Perhaps they are starting to learn that they can't simply annihilate xenos and instead are going to study them? Or they just lack exterminatus materials

I ain't got time to die, I'm too busy exterminating!

Now, we descend into battle like Angels from on high. The Emperor depends upon us as his messengers, and we shall know no fear! WE ARE SPACE MARINES!

Space Marines can only be male because marine implants only take with the male physiology. Males and females have differing hormone levels in terms of estrogen, testoterone, etc. Thank you for reading this.

Or maybe they bombed them to stone age and now it is famous hunting resort for SM Chapter Masters - "Predator-style"?

I always figured they were a potential future army that GW keeps in their pocket, yknow after AdMec finally hits (in twenty years).

I think the Imperium has not utterly defeated them but has managed to contain them to certain areas of space. This may still mean that the Barghesi still have their civilisation intact with armies, fleets etc. This would make exterminatus possibly very hard or it could fail if the Imperium's attack fleet is stopped, prompting a Barghesi migration, invasion.

However the Imperium is preventing them from expanding. The first mention of them said to avoid their territory at all costs, this means they would still have ships etc to get about in and attack people who enter their space. That the Imperium seems to want to prevent them from going out too far because they Tyranids will eat them and absorb their DNA does indicate they are a minor race because protecting them from Tyranids seems of a higher importance than destroying them.

Most likely is that the Barghesi defenses are too strong to go against head to head without inflicting major causalities for the IOM, but that doesn't mean that the nids won't stop cause of that. So they took out the nid's who are probably a greater threat and the Barghesi are probably happy where they are for now.

Well, I understand why the IoM is defending them more than likely (Even though slips in the defenses let DE get them), how come there are no actual pictures of what they look like? You'd think that xenobiologiss would take pictures of them or something.

Xenobiologist?

Surely you mean 'heretic xenos-lover'?

There are sanctioned people who are allowed to study Xenos. Members of the Adeptus mechanicus specialise in this, often Tyranid study is their area. Also the Inquisition has people who study Xenos, either working with Techpriests or agents of their own they have trained.

You are right to say "heretic-xenos-lover". These individuals charged with the study of the foul Xenos are (no doubt) carefully monitored and tested for taint of the flesh, mind and spirit. Many are probably found wanting and purged. This may be what we would call a legitimate reason such as they have been accidentally infected with some sort of Tyranid pathogen or mutagen that is turning them into a monster. Often it will also be because of the diverse points of view in the Imperium.

Some Inquisitors will see the study of Xenos as enlightened self interest for the protection of humanity.

Others will see it as a neccesary evil only to be done in times of great need.

Others will view it as highly dangerous and those who study such evil Xenos corruption as being corrupted beyond redemtion by the very knowledge they may gain from such study, whatever it may be.

People in the Eclesiarchy will also often comdemn such people as Heretics for their studies and for simply using science to try to understand what (in their eyes) Imperial dogma already explains.

Because of this so-called Xenobiologists may be sanctioned to perform their studies and then executed for perfroming such work in the first place, all carried out by the Inquisition.

One because the iom doesnt have a lot of pictures of xenos lying around. Two they are a minor xenos faction that doesn't really matter in the grand scale. And three they might be just too ugly to look at ever thought of that?

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

Werebears are how I imagine the Bhargesi

You have normal Bhargesi on the left and Hyper Violent mode on the right, whether they are as cute and fuzzy wuzzy is open for argument.

Always imagined a Space Marine landing on their homeworld, reporting back to their ship that there was no risk or dangerous lifeforms only for an 'OH DEAR EMPEROR' moment as he begins to pet a bhargesi that grows in size and RRAAAGGEEEE and rips his arms off.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes
