Freaky Flayed One

Good morning all.
I am thinking of doing a Space Wolf list but I really don't like the models. I was wanting to know if anybody has experienced problems using one group of codex marines as another?
My army would be full WYSIWYG for a space wolf list, or whatever list I was using but might be painted in the wrong colour and heraldry or something.
Thanks

We just had a lenghty thread on this topic. There was one person who had problem with this, everyone else thought it was totally okay. So go for it.
However, if you want to avoid any possible complaints, then just create your own chapter (IMHO, most fun approach anyway.) Then no one can complain regardless of what codex you use.

I have units from codex DA, BA and SM, including special characters from each, my main use is blood angels but had a lot of fun using SM codex lately. They are all painted as a successor chapter and even vulkan pedro meph etc are painted in the same colour scheme.
Fluff wise, Meph was chief librarian, thought dead and succeed by Servin Loth (or tiggy I guess), vulkan is a souped up master of the forge, pedro is company captain of the 4th, shrike is company caption of the 8th etc.
I make clear which codex I am running before hand and hardly ally in another marine codex but will be doing that for a toruny next week.

Go for it. If everything is WYSIWYG, you'll have no issues. Most people don't mind, and anyone who does have a problem with it is somebody you don't want anything to do with anyway. It's a game, but some people treat using marines as any chapter other than their own as akin to raping kittens.

As long as your models are representative of the rule set you are looking to use, there are no reasonable grounds for complaints.

Yup, the absolute best way for doing this is to make your own Chapter color scheme, because then no other players will have hangups over what they already have established in their heads about each of the main Chapters.
For example, the "Black Reckoners" could have have a setup that mimics any of the other Codex chapters, even multiples. Their Assault companies might function like basic Blood Angels when they are on foot, but Ravenwing when they are mounted in vehicles and bikes, and their 2nd company might be led by a Librarian that acts like a Runepriest and command might be fine with his wishing for a setup like a Space Wolves company, with his elite retinue spread among the squads as leaders like Wolf Guard.

Bearing in mind, of course, that once your models are painted and modelled in a specific way they are often no longer representative of the rules you are looking to use. An Ultramarine is representative of a Bolt Pistol, a Bolter, Combat Tactics and Combat Squads for example, while a Space Wolf is representative of Acute Senses, pistol and CCW, and counter attack. No Combat tactics or squads.
So when you're building your army, it's important to consider how you paint and model it, as certain rules are associated with the appearance of certain models.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?" |

And my custom Star Puppies chapter which, by complete coincidence just happens to look a lot like Space Wolves, is representative of a bolt pistol, bolter, combat tactics, and combat squads. It's very clearly a C: SM model, and there's no rule that says I can't paint my C: SM models using the same paint colors that many people use for their Space Wolves army.
(Of course now that DA are out I might have to change the fluff and have the Star Puppies be a DA successor chapter and start working on a Puppywing army.)

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

As long as you model everything correctly to the unit rules and you tell the other players what codex you are using. It would be the same as if you used the C A to represent another chapter's first company going to war on mass. Perfectly fine in my book.
Some points about counts-as for your army, if you want to include thunderwolves, don't use bikes (seeing as they are already a seperate option) unless you make massive chain sword covered bikes.
