Hey everyone!

So I decided to use elysians as storm troopers for my guard army but couldn't decide how I wanted to paint them. After thinking a while I went for a fall camo scheme and this is the result. C&C would be very much appreciated.
*Edit: The rest of the squad can now be found further down on this page.*

This rules. I like the camo quite a bit and the pose and, more imporantly, the base are awesome!

Ok, this guy looks great, but here's my little bit of constructive criticism: it looks like you're highlighting the boots + weapons with a blue-grey - I think you might want to be careful with the amount of blue you use. Using orange in the camo is going to bring out any blues and make them look perhaps stronger than you intended. So, unless you actually want the guy to be wearing dark blue boots (and there's nothing wrong with that), tone down the blueness a little bit. Same goes for the gun.

I think the camouflage itself looks really excellent, and this is an excellent model. Looking forward to seeing more.

I get your point and agree but the picture also does a lot when it comes to the "blue-ness" and makes it a lot brighter. It's (the boots and gun that is) painted with a black base, 1st highlight of a 1:1 mix of Abbadon Black and Shadow Grey and then finally highlighted with a 3:1 mix of Shadow Grey and Abbadon Black if that gives you a better idea of how it looks in person.

That's fair enough man, I always wonder to what extent camera / computer screen settings are messing with colour saturation. Got to trust your own eyes in the end! Have fun painting your stormies

I really like it the scheme, but I find the camo is a bit too indistinct (a hard thing to get right at this scale of course), and makes it look like he's an Airsofter who stumbled into a Paintball game.

A harder and more distinct pattern would suit your idea better I think.

Should I go for a more digital camo then? Or would just dampen the orange a bit do the trick? As of now it's quite a bit brighter than the other camo colours and I feel that it might be more camo-ish if all colours match each other in strength.

Other than the shape, the main problem is that you are using a very saturated (and bright!) warm colour on top of a very desaturated uniform.

I would have used a more autumnal base colour such as a red-brown, before then laying on some (less saturated) reds, and oranges or whatever. Keep it simple though - use a mid-tone as your base uniform colour, and then pick one darker, and one lighter colour to form the cam. You need to vary the lightness of tones or it will become mush to the eye. Great in real life, not great at 30mm.

Square pixellated cad/marpat (or whatever digicam you might be thinking of) is impossible to pull off convincingly at this scale tbh, and so I would pick either a mottled or a tiger pattern for an easy and fast effect.

MTP/DPM patterns are pretty easy too, but require more thought and care with the execution.

If you want to stick with the grey uniform basecoat, then I'd suggest desaturating the crap outta whatever camo colours you decide use too.

I'm not sure you pulled off the camo look quite right, but the pose has a lot of character!

Would you ever realistically have a bi-pod on a 12" assault weapon? That was the first thing that popped up to me. I could be wrong. I agree that the pose is good though. +1 for creativity.

I thought this as well TBH. Why would anyone lay down and take aim with a weapon that I realistically want him firing from 6" away...and probably at a tank. No need to snipe a short range weapon at a tank sized target. I love the color, I love the camo, but the weapon is just tripping me out, sorry.

I have now finished up the rest of the squad as well. The colours in the camo are toned down, especially the orange, but I decided to stick with the pattern i already had.
C&C would once again be appreciated. I must say though that especially the orange is quite a bit darker in real life then what it is in this picture.
