Graven - Remember Harry Ended up winning in the end

Thanks man! Really appreciate it!

I've got a 12 hour shift today, 8 tomorrow, then I get some more time off to work on this behemoth of a painting bench. I'm planning the airbrush booth now. Since I use only acrylics, it'll be simplified (I don't need tons of Cubic Feet Per Minute of static airflow to suck toxic fumes out) it'll just be enough to serve dual purpose as an extractor and paint drying area.

Do you really get that much toxic fumes when only working with acrylic paints...no other flow enhancements etc...? You know I can't smell but I was quite naive to airbrush on my desk in the living room...of course I went the distance and made sure everything was kept still clean even after airbrushing...

No, none at all Vik. I'm pretty sure you don't want to inhale wet paint, that's not good, but no, there are no toxic fumes from acrylic. It's more of a matter of moving some air, controlling overspray (remember how my first row of paint bottles was all oversprayed), add some wire racks, and it'll really help with drying paint quicker.

I read that last bit as “Add some wine racks...”. So while you are waiting for stuff to dry, pop open a bottle, it helps pass the time.

Speaking of which, you have space for a fridge to store painting supplies that need to be served kept cold?

As a matter of fact, I do! There is a space behind the bar that will accommodate one of those small, travel trailer refrigerators to definitely keep painting supplies FRESH

No Vik, it's glued and nailed from the sides and from the back panel into the shelves. There will be no bending, even if I store titanium on them

This is a 30" Kitchen Range Hood. It's a convertible model, meaning, It can be vented or non-vented. It's currently set-up non-vented, If I need more ventillation for whatever reason (decide to start playing with laquers or other smelly stuff in the future) And add furnace exhaust pipes. She's got a 225 CFM variable speed fan, that'll draw air up, through a charcoal filter and out through the top vent. (outside if I pipe it). It also has a light bulb socket that'll let me add another daylight bulb. I'll line the back and bottom of the booth with something and add some wire shelving. With the wire shelving, air will be drawn up from below to help in the paint-drying process. I think this'll work like a charm.

Because my brain is not firing on all cylinders lately. But watching too many episodes of property brothers and fixer upper have given me a bunch of ideas that will never happen in real life .

That kitchen vent is an awesome idea...I feel a slight urge to look for a second hand one now...alas my setup wouldn't allow it due to space or rather lack of...

And this needs asking...how many fething paint bottles/pots do you own????

Also...since it is so many shelves...color coding the boards in some way seems like a good looking time saver?

Thanks Vik!- the short answer...I don't know, I've never counted them all, but a LOT.

Of course, I'm getting fast and efficient building these shelves now that this is the last one
This one is 2.5 inches, to accommodate the larger bottles of stuff.

Btw, i Live These customized spacers out of chunks of leftover wood...I always have some of different sizes at hand for such purposes...

(Also secretly admiring your screw clamps...I know I need to get me a similar set soonish...can't count the times how often I could have worked more efficient and angular with these if I had them already)

Not where I should be

Dave has so much paint because he never paints anything

It is looking incredible. I am actually looking into standardized larger pots of main colours. Transfering smaller pots into a larger proper screw top pot. They are not expensive and would save me messing about with 3 pots of Abadon Black at once. Just a thought while you are there.

Heh Vik...If I were a smart man, I would've bought the range hood before building the bench, as a result, there is a nice little chunk that needed filled. It looks a bit odd, but oh well

They cut me this shelf right in the store with a HUGE pair of bolt cutters

Other than the shelf for my air compressor, I think this is MOST of the major construction. I'll leave the top shelf off until I decide what's happening with the furnace pipe area.

@ Cam- true notice none of these shelves are built to fit GW pots

@Desubot- thanks man- but I'm ok with this type of construction, finer furniture woodwork is another story. Nothing is very accurate here, but it'll work for my purposes.

Dave, know it might be too late, but that wedge shaped piece could be taken out and a larger piece put in going higher up. Then attach some of the magnetic strips too it to hold useful tools. You could have your wire brushes for cleaning out the airbrush, the wrench for taking the brush apart, or even just a bottle opener for celebrations .
