Ok... So here's the situation. Last night I was at a buddy's place playing. It was my first run with IG. I put a squad in Chimera as a dedicated transport. He didn't have any problem with the attached Commisar, but he had a question about the Lascannon I had with the squad.

We looked through the rules and didn't see anywhere where there was a limitation called out for heavy weapons in the squad. A Chimera is able to carry 12 troops, and there were only 11 in the vehicle with the lascannon.

Is there a limitation that we missed?

Nope. The HWT is a single infantry model (might take up two spaces nor sure though away from book, don't think it does). So a platoon squad would have 9 models plus the commissar for 10.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Yea it's 1 model, 2 wounds. It's not bulky or anything so it only takes up 1 slot.

You might want to double check the codex, page 29 last sentence under the heading 'Heavy Weapons Teams' to be specific.

Got it. Thanks, guys.

The next issue is about the squad structure and adding a commisar. From the way the entry is written, a squad consists of a sergeant and 9 guardsmen for a total of 10. The way it seems to be written, a commisar can be added to the squad, bringing the number of models to 11.

Is that correct or does the commisar replace the sergeant?

Duely noted, I was going from memory.

According to the IG codex, HWT count as a single model in all respects EXCEPT it takes up 2 slots in a transport. It's still not a problem with your example as you have 7 Guardsmen, 1 Sergeant, 1 HWT, and 1 Commissar for a total of 11 slots.
