Can't be more fidley than chopping up bolt pistols and gluing onto meltaguns
Idea for me now is two 10 man teams each with a melta team and an infantry team
Think infantry combat squad is best mixed up, ie I have 2 combiplasma, combiflamer and heavy flamer above, that way if its a guard list you are not reliant on plasma overkill to wash psyker battle squads from ruins, but equally they can make a real dent in a group of terminators etc.
For mc hunting I appreciate 5 plasma better, in above eg I would have 4 plasma and 4 hellfire rounds going in, so hopefully 3 or 4 wounds from that combat squad and enough that the rest of the list can finish the job at range that turn.
In the list I have these 10 I squeezed in two land raiders so 4 TLLC helps

Loricatus: That should work out fine, I've had good luck running my 10 man squads in a 5/5 mix
As far as MCs go, yeah, they hate plasma, helfires and TLLC. I generally run a Quadgun, which can also put the hurt on them with Telion at the controls

Interesting thread i'm in the middle of kitting out mine!
One thing I've struggled with though which is probably more a modelling question is how do you physically equip say 5 combi meltas..!? With how the finecast model s are it looks like even if I got the magnetic guns from chapter house, I'd still have to chop at the model to get the gun off and fiddle to get the new one on.. is this just the way it is?
In terms of loadout im thinking melta and flamer, if youre using combiplasma for elite infantry like terminators I dont think the 1 plasma shot is worth it and we should focus that from elsewhere...

From a modeling perspective, don't feel restricted to the GW sternguard box. Just take some tactical marines and roll them around in your bits box. The one nice thing to have would be distinctive shoulder pads. I think there are some veteran shoulders in the command squad box.

You don't have to throw it away necessarily. When I use sternguard with melta, its in a 3 pod list and I drop a fragnought with them to support.

Wouldn't combi flamers make people really not want to charge you? Or can you not use the combi weapon in overwatch?

Perhaps, but I usually see sternguard crippled by shooting. A few flamers is not going to keep me from locking them up in combat. Special ammo and all that.

I always drop these guys a suicide bombers. Either 5 melta 5 flamer and pop the tank and the guys inside. Or all 10 melta and grab 2 tanks. They ALWAYS get the job done. I'm sure this has been mentioned before in a thousand other threads.

But suiciding sternguard does not sound like a good plan! 5 of them are 125 points with no gear. I prefer to back them up and actually make the drop a real assault on a flank. I usually only use drop pods with my jumper lists. My hybrid mech lists are all about cowering on my side of the board

Its all about target saturation on the alpha strike. If your going alpha, go big. I always do at least 5 pods(3 first turn) and at least 2 full 10 man squads w a dread or third squad of stern. If you drop 30, and back them up w TFC / Telion/ or heavy weapons from the backfield they will absolutley decimate your opponents guys. You're almost garunteed to kill 2-3 tanks / MCs and 2-3 infantry squads if you run full melta/flamer squads. Anything left afret that will have to try and drop up to 30 stern, probably w some in cover from terrain / pods. Just deploy your backfield properly to support them and stern wil survive longer than you may think, and every round counts with that special ammo

Exactly
Just finalized 10 sternguard, their pad rims are white, rest of army had black
They stand out very nicely
I used bare heads but could also paint helmets white, which is veteran
Not got sterns to gallery yet but here are some of my vanguard, only one actual vanguard mini

Like this idea
I used deepstrike list to win Lords of Terra 2012. That was last of 5th Ed however this is how it works best. Roll up a flank and your opponents strategy goes out the window.
His deploying is difficult too.

Got my chapterhouse package and have to trumpet it
Detail is excellent, I love this kit
Got javelin attack bike, predator armoured kit, mentor shoulderpad for differentiated Libby, spartan helmets and the combiweapons.
Have to say I'm actually most excited about the spartan helmets. They are metal but detail is superb, very aggressive and these will stand out beautifully.

This thing with the CHS kit is the single gun-part.
They didn't send more magnets when I ordered the other 2 gun parts, but I'll be gluing them like that anyway.
I do like them though.

Not saying the GW standard sternguard is not good, or that mine are better, just that you don't have to use the GW models if your happy to build your own with bits

Nice looking squad you've got there, tell us how they do on the field after a few battles. It's my firm superstition that nicely painted models fight harder and roll better -

Yeah, I hate that only one model in the GW Sternguard kit has combi-wep options.
I have the old metal models and are loathe to chop them up to pop on new upgrades.
So I just wind up using them as is or relegating them to the shelf in favor of kit bashes.
I'm gonna have some nice ones done up for me by IanPowell ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/user/profile/63113.page) using FW MkIV kits (my favs) and Chapterhouse combi-kits.
I'll post pictures once I can get them up and running.
