When using mech tactics, I was thinking of using warbikers instead of buggies as a screen for trucks and BW's. They are cheaper, have an exhaust cloud cover, are easier to maneuver between threats and your mech troops, their mobility allow them to react to targets of opportunities. How well would they hold up compared to buggies? I was thinking a minimalist approach with 4-5 bikes leading BWs and trucks to insure delivery the foot troops quickly.

Well, you are putting points into units give your vehicles a 5+ cover save. Why not take a KFF Big Mek instead for the same save and put your points into units that you would rather field? I am not a big fan of either unit. Neither has great survivability.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Actually I've found bikerz to be quite handy as a fieldable unit and a screen. During 5th my bikerz were upfront and absorbing half the gunfire aimed at my army.

For that I took units of 6 with nob upgrades. Not too big a footprint but not small enough to be useless. Bit pricey at 190pts a unit but I think it's worth it.

The problem is the bikes wont really cover units behind them, as bikes are small. And the exhaust cloud only works for the bikes. Where as buggies are larger and have much funner, more flexible movement rules thanks to squadrons. Also, buggies are fast, so they move 12 and turbo boost 12. Same distance a bike can cover

That said though, I'm a big fan of the Bike's gun

It's a reason to take them in its own right.

Thats because its a TL bigshoota with shorter range. Its also why I stick with the TL bigshootas on my buggies. Bigshootas are the cheese man, if I could take more I would, hell Id pay double to add more to boyz mobz if I could. Part of me wishes they redue FlashGits and make them like before, where they were just running around with bigshootas more or less. Bigshootas are just an awesomely good weapon, that becomes epic when its twin linked
