The town of Bakkala was certainly one of the most famous in northwestern South Dakkastan. The dates, olives, and pistachios of the region were prized for their delicate flavour. The ivory-coloured wool of its goats was highly regarded for it softness and reputed ability to repel the undead. It was the site of the Clay Mosque of Abu Daoud, renowned for its smooth strangely curving lines, bright blue dome, and gilded minarets. Bakkala had, by virtue of its location, also been known throughout history as the "gateway to Derka-Derka"—for the town sat astride the famous Silk Road (now renamed "Highway 20″) that led eastwards through the arid scrub and hills to the South Dakkastani capital.
Shortly after the Kirkland incident, Bakkala would become the site of the first major battle of the war (variously known as "Operation Hegemonic Moral Self-Assuredness" in the Federated States of Natonia, and as the "Great Patriotic War and Jihad Against the Imperialist Infidel Aggressors and their Lackeys" in the Republic of South Dakkastan)…
Battle report
Political setting and rules description
(The countries and scenario are fictional, of course--however, the equipment and rule set are historical, which is why I have posted this here.)

“Operation Hegemonic Moral Self-Assuredness”
Also...
"Some supporting fire from a battery of 155mm artillery was added to the mix too, the shells landing amongst a platoon of Popular Militia, and setting a farmhouse on fire. That would be one less supplier of radical pistachios to compete with the patriotic (if heavily-subsidized) farmers of the Natonian Free Trade Area."
Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Looks great, by the way. Makes me want to get started on my own 6mm modern stuff. If, you know, I didn't have a mound of other miniatures to paint. T_T

In the "Political Setting and Rules Description" links the author talks about what system they use. From that part:
Games will be played using a combination of the Wargames Research Group’s Wargames Rules for Armoured Warfare, 1950-1985 (1979) for the basic movement and morale rules, coupled with the target acquisition, direct and indirect fire, and air strike rules from the later edition Wargames Rules, 1950-2000 (1993). While the attempt to encourage the use of appropriate national doctrine in the latter through a series detailed orders and associated tactical modes was a bit too unwieldy (which is why we aren’t using those sections), they both remain some of the best modern wargames rules ever written.
Edit, so it is not Force-on-FOrce. FoF is more of an infantry skirmish game, where these folks are doing Micro-armor.

The ground scale, incidentally, is 1mm = 2m, which means that my 4 (or 6) x 8' table represents approximately 2.4 km (or 3.6km) x 4.8 km. This is necessary because some modern direct fire weapons can reach out to 5,000m (although in the sort of games we run its rare that you can get sight lines much beyond 1800m or so, and often less).

Nice report, this looks like an interesting campaign.
A few friends and I have been doing a Cold War Commander campaign for 1:285 scale, circa 1985. The early WarPac thrusts over the border went badly, resulting in increasing unrest in allied territories, but recently a heavy Soviet advance has succeeded in driving deep into West German territory... Details here if you're interested.
One of the things I like about CWC is the command system, albeit modified for our local group - what is Micro Armour like?
