Hi guys,

Today I painted a first test model for my Adeptus Custodes army using mainly the airbrush.
I'm still learning to use it properly, so it may not be overwhelming. ^^
I still like how he turned out.

Here is an artwork that I used for inspiration:

Looks fantastic, reminds me of the roman legion.

Outstanding work! Thank you for sharing.

He looks weirdly tall and lanky, and the flash from your camera (or a direct light, can't tell) is blowing out the details. Try taking a picture in a better-lit environment without flash, or at least without light blasting directly on the model.

I disagree, his proportions make him look taller than a regular SM which is a good thing, and the legs are much more realistic than a normal terminators.

The thing is... He needs to be at least the same size as the regular Custodes guy. So I don't have the choice anyway.

And he actually IS pretty bulky. I will post a size comparison to a regular marine later on. ^^

Not sure if it is the flash, but the red parts look pretty flat. They could do with a wash/highlight to get some definition in there, but looking good otherwise!

It's mainly due to my absolute lack of photographic skill and the bright light. ^^

awesome looking model and well painted to. To enhance the look of the model I would definitely suggest washing the armour and then highlighting it with a mix of the gold you used added to silver (50/50 mix).

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

Awesome model, looking forward to seeing more!

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

The proportions are completely wrong. The legs and waist are too long and skinny.

The proportions are more realistic than those of original GW models.
Think of them as "True scale marines".

But thank you for your constructive criticism anyway.

I think the scale of the models are excellent, the GW space marines/IG are just terrible when it comes to scale.

You can sure work better your gold and thé red.

I could lower it a bit, yes.
I was thinking about that myself, already.

No, it's just fine. Fingers extended reach to mid thigh. You're just used to looking at GW's improperly proportioned "heroic scale" models...

I would like to see an ink wash and maybe a little highlighting with mithril silver (not too much)...
Otherwise it looks like a great representation of that artwork. Well done.

Maybe so, but the "correct" scale just looks...odd. Somehow not quite right.

Be sure to ink the skirt bit and then paint gold or brass tips like your pic (and Roman skirts armor) to make it tie into the illustration pic your posted.

You might make the horsehair plumes bigger, again to correspond with the pic, which looks awesome. Maybe test color a crimson for the red as well.
Also might look at Iron Warrior or similar helmets for more of a classic look.
