How about alien bugs, about 4 feet tall, extremely intelligent when working as a group, high initiative, BS and WS, but it goes down the more of them in a platoon are killed. The hive leader, or buaerocrat has pheremonal control that can increase certain skills while reducing others, because they have less individual skill. The have high technology, but it is prone to temporally malfunctioning. The team leader also has the ability to repair health points. Dreadnought like constructions are frequent, but used as carriers for elite squads and have limited burrowing ability.
