I'm still pretty new to IG (And WH40K in general) and I'm looking through my codex and I'm a little bit confused about HQ choices. When running an infantry platoon, is a Company Command Squad a mandatory choice? I don't see what else I could use as a HQ choice other than a Company Command Squad.

A Lord Commissar and a Primaris Psyker are both options.
As are Yarrick, and any other option listed under the HQ section.

A CCS is not mandatory with any unit, but taking a Platoon Command Squad is mandatory when taking a Platoon. The PCS counts as part of the platoon in the Force Organization Chart, and therefore is a Troop choice.

So, you don't HAVE to build it along the chain of command? CCS > PCS > Squads

You can insert a Lord Commissar or Yarrick instead of a CCS? I just figured those guys were attached to a CCS, sort of like advisors. Or if you pick sub-HQs like Creed, they replace one of your CCS members.

Alright, thanks very much for the information.

It is important to note that neither Priests nor Tech-Priests take up an HQ slot, and CANNOT count towards your mandatory 1-HQ.

The only choices which CAN count as your mandatory HQ are:
CCS (which can include Creed or Straken)
Lord Commisar (or Yarrick, who is one)
Primaris Psyker.

Note that the CCS is *NOT* a mandatory choice.

For what it's worth, you used to be able to. The FAQ currently says that you can't, but it used to say that you can. That may be where the confusion lies.
