Simple rotation, the ammo feed was a tad tricky, a little bending with hot water for the perfect fit.

Squig, I hope your foot heals up quickly! Also, those zombies are gorgeous...I'll be adding on the B3G4thF offer...twice, perhaps. My second survey may cost more than the initial pledge. >.<

Get well soon, Squig. You fell in the line of duty.

I'm glad the zombies are looking good, as I plan to use them as better looking 3rd gen models. Not so pleased at the prospect of paying for more connectors, though, if it turns out that I wasn't given enough to use in my battlezones to begin with. If. Can't complain, as I don't have any terrain in my hands to assess connector quality / quantity yet.

@GamesandGears - Your boards are beautifully done, and I know you have Deadzone grid overlays, but is there any chance you guys might make a dedicated Deadzone board in the future?

To be honest you can get away with less connectors in a build but its a safer bet to join each joint . I've managed to break a few trying out different builds so ive popped an order in for 3 more sprues.

Im probably going to end up getting 8 boxes of the 4th gens to bulk out my warpath force. Im not far of having 7 units for it already from my 3 plague starters plus boosters.

Got to remember how much cool stuff there is on wave2 looks like I'll easily spend more than my inital pledge plus survey addons combined.

Theres the two new factions plus boosters, zombies, heavy enforcers, more mercs, 5 different mechs, a new scenery sprue and possibly plastic enforcers sprues. Im reconing $300+ easy.

Personally I think Mantic should cash in on Squig's injury, just imagine how amazing the advertisements will be: "Mantic's Deadzone, so exciting you'll break your toes off to play it!!!"

Pure class.

But seriously get well soon Squig. Also I'm really loving what people have done with their terrain so far, it already shows just have versatile this stuff is, now just imagine in a few years
time when even more deadzone sets exist and everyone owns mountains off this stuff, there's going to be some crazy builds before you know it.

Honest question for people who know more about the theme:

So necromunda had lots of 'samey-looking' terrain as it was part of the hive theme. This terrain makes me think like space-colony pre-fab housing and buildings which are designed 'samey' due to function. I am not sure what could possibly have 'two walls' simply standing free for no reason, or what function it serves. Is there any info from the game fluff or design how and why terrain is like it is? are these just wrecked cities or what?

I feel like I would want to build all complete housing units or something.

2nd wave is looking too promising at the moment. But I already went in big on wave 1, so I'll be looking to keep my next purchase as close to $100 as possible. I'm currently down for a Marauder / Asterian booster BOGOF, the Helfather, a Plague teraton, and 2 more battlezones, so not bad.

But now that the Brokkrs have broken through my false front of "I don't like Space Dwarfs" I'm hoping that the Forge Guard models end up looking terrible so I won't be tempted to invest in another faction. C'mon Mantic, give 'em giant metallic diapers or something.

I would refer to OrlandotheTechnicoloured post on buildings.

The buildings in the pic we posted, I think is for just quick demo purposes to introduce gamers into the game and new people in the hobby. So not really I think a full blown here is what you can build and do, OrlandotheTechnicoloured post really shows what you can do with the buildings . The demo game I think is just a appeal to gamers to show how quickly you can have a cool looking gaming scene without doing anything time consuming. That's our reading as it was purely built for quick display demoing the game, for those at the open day. That said, it looks cool , but making them into proper one like the post we referred to would add a lot more awesome

Yeah same above, really gonna be hard not to go out with wave 2, so much of the current deadzone stuff while not perfect has still exceeded my expectations. If Mantic end up making the cyphers even half as good as I hope they will be
I'll very likely be buying the start of a full Astrain army to get myself into warpath, those BOGOF deals are just perfect for that.

Shame my package hasn't arrived yet I can only watch you guys have all the fun.

@Vermonter
Have the Brokkrs been shown already Verm, I haven't seen them, anyone care to share?

Glad I went in for the buy 60 get 20 free of those zombies. They won't go astray!

Most terrain we've seen has just been basic "provide cover" on a 2x2. Looking forward to the epic 3-5 level high stuff once people get more assembled. Would probably be slower gameplay, but I think it'll be much more in depth tactics involved when you're dealing with so many levels and fire avenues, routes to get around and so on. Will make hover, agile, glide troops come into their own I think.

Definitely going to look into magnetising, main problem I think will just be will the magnet housings might look out of place unless a lot of care is taken. The way I'm visualising it, they'll mostly be on the insides, but at the very least yeah, clipping together discrete building units that are glued together should be doable if far from ideal.

I will admit, that technically the board is what? 2' by 2' by 2'?

I really am tempted to go for glory with a tower... - Lets see how strong those connectors really are!

i think the board is 2'x2'xY where y=whatever you want Unless it actually says somewhere.

I definitely want to work out some 8 tile tall terrain though! I think it will shift the meta of what is good, but rotating such a board in and out of campaigns, or at least knowing it exists ahead of time should sort out any imbalances.

Jump packs will probably the the order of the day.

I think the second survey will be a while off - no point in Mantic sending it out until they know whether the Enforcers will be hard plastic or not (if they aren't they will likely be sending out quite a few refunds).

I got my tracking # a couple of days ago but it hasn't shipped out yet - anyone else in the US had the pledge ship yet?

The background is that the Corporation (who runs the colonies where the DeadZones are declared) is pretty cheap as a result of pure greed, so the containers they ship equipment in to start a colony are designed to be then be converted into colony buildings once things are taken out. It would then make sense that further expansions would require further equipment, shipped in further containers and so forth. Not a completely outlandish explanation since presently we use shipping containers as trailers once they're off the ship.

The two walls is aesthetic choice by the builder; if you want full buildings go for it. Also the ruins sprue that will be sold later would help too. It's like Lego for grown-ups...who also like toy soldiers. Build it how you want today, then take it all apart and do something completely different tomorrow.

Yep I really think the board layouts will open up new tactics for different teams/units. Lots of LoS blocking terrain = good for indirect fire such as mortars. 3+ levels = good for jetpacks, agile and hover. Lots of narrow corridors = great for Enforcer defenders, teratons etc. Wide open spaces = good for ranged heavy armies, lots of alternate routes = good for fast assault based armies. Man... I'm fkn loving this without even playing it ; )

Damn straight, I was sad when they weren't coming in wave 1 since IMO they're pretty important to help us get started with Deadzone since so few people will have it to begin with. Also since I'm housebound, it'll let me get games much easier ; p

Solo rules is one of the big awesome things about Deadzone imo. Mantic and Quirkworthy have done so much right with Deadzone, I really hope it takes off like Dreadball has. Once again, you and I are in sync, my American friend! ; ) (I'm not stalking you, honest... BTW, does this rag smell like chlorophorm?)

Just don't make any plans to wear my skin, it's got lots of moles and really you could do better. That, and I'm liable to be pretty whiny if kept trapped in a 20ft pit.

I intend to spread the word of Deadzone and the joy of Mantic wherever possible. I want to arrange a "traveling kit" consisting of two viable forces (maybe a few more points than 70 so I can switch it up inbetween games), maybe a few mercs and the stand-outs on the side to draw attention too, and enough terrain to get a good feel for DZ, all along with the mat rulebook dice etc. The mat and rulebook will probably have to go into my messenger bag, but the rest of it I want to fit into a planno xl accessory/4 pistol case so its easy to transport. I've got a couple of gamestores within an hours drive (but not really any serviceable stores in town), so I plan to feel out the situation at each and see if they'd be down for me demonstrating deadzone at some point. If we had solo rules I could just show up and play by myself and see if anyone wanted to sit in

If you go hard with spreading Deadzone, I don't doubt Mantic will offer you some support if you can show them you're doing it well. Warmahordes (Privateer Press?) have a system where they do great things to spread their game, and it's doing wonders in Australia.

I've been tempted to do something similar with Barzam when time permits for both of us (which would probably be quite rare until at least summer rolls around).

We've got a few shops within an hour or so drive of us. The most local I don't think I've ever seen a game played there, despite having a large and prominent table in the way of their merchandise shelves and displays.

Once both of us get a good handle on the rules, fight against each other and other family members a few times, it might be fun to bring some pieces to show off.

Do you know what's going on with the UPS shipping then? I got an email days ago saying that the estimated date of delivery was the 28th, but the tracking page just says "Order Processed: Ready for UPS"! No indication of things moving forwards at all. Looks like I might have to give them a ring.

Not that this isn't all going under a tree anyway, but seeing all of these lovely photos has made me keen to lock this down...

Yeah, it is showing "Order Processed: Ready for UPS" as they have created the label but not yet shipped the parcel.

Ronnie explained in the video Mantic put out last week that the orders shipped were trial orders and they will begin shipping in full this week.

They are sending out shipments again today, so hopefully we will see a change in the tracking info. Us couriers guys are supposed to go first.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

@Azazel - I work from home, so no time off, but I can still get stuff done. Could be worse, the warehouse job I was doing a few years back had no sick pay.

Probably about time I posted my open day pics:

Terrain sprues (landing pad and defense line):

A fifth battlezone is heading out to retail next year, it will have long walls (to create proper 45 degree corners to buildings) and other assorted extras.

And, just for a laugh.. a (rejected) WIP render for the deadzone rebs walker, before the size of the gun was toned down quite a lot:

The DZ walker will be much bigger than the dreadball one, there was a slide that showed the DB walker render inside the DZ one and the DZ one is about 33% taller, it is not just going to be the dreadball mech with new arms, it will properly fit the pilot inside.

As for putting together the terrain it is apparently for the best to get a tiny square file into the connector holes to widen them up a bit. It seems like the engineering doesn't really take flash into account. I don't have anything that small so I'll stick to just clipping off and gluing.

One thing to keep in mind when making large buildings is access, getting minis inside... as a solution I've created a freestanding wall using the buttress connectors (one on each side), so that 3 sides of building's walls are glued together, and one wall can be removed when needed to put minis inside.

Also, someone on the mantic forums had the idea of magnetizing everything.. could work *really* well... thin bit of metal over the connector recesses and cube magnets to hold everything together!

I'm thinking that could be the best way to go about it if you really want sub-assemblies or flat-pack terrain that can be very quickly thrown together before a game.
