....For My wife.

About a fortnight ago, my best friend and i decided it would be really good fun to go to the Kill Team Tournament at warhammer world in June. Aside from the change in army scale, the rules present ample opportunities to make a very personalised, and heavily converted Kill team that shouldn't take too long to build and paint. My choice of Team was based somewhat on my own collection (Imperial fists, Necrons and Tau) and after much deliberation i decided on a team of 6 deathmarks and 2 wraiths, with the specialists spread out among them, one wraith would get armourbane and whipcoils to kill any dreads or vehicles, one deathmark would get shrouded so i caould try out a predator-esque stealth camo effect, and i hadn't decided on the last.

All was going swimingly until my beloved wife got wind of it, and insisted that she should help, she wants to pick the kill team, and help me paint it.
She has been behind me all the way since i started wargaming again, and has even been helping me paint my forces, and more importantly, not giving me dirty looks when i escape every weekend to play games. So, i aquiesced to her request, and then asked her which of my forces she liked best, and the answers i got were:

Imperial fists are yellow, she hates yellow
Necrons all look the same, and are boring
Tau look like anime, she doesn't like anime

In exasperation, i handed her the BRB, flipped to the army section, and asked her to show me which ones she likes best, and we would go from there. Now i am fairly familiar with fighting most of the armies i face, but since my Codex collection is somewhat limited right now, i don't want to go out and buy every army in the 'short list' she gave me until i'm a bit more conversant with the armies at hand. The short list i have been handed is:

Dark eldar, she loves the Lhamaeans, and the scourges (wings are cool, apparently) and the overall dark feel to the army. Incubi look mean as well
Harlequins: the models are aesome, and she is convinced i can paint them as well as in the book (i can't...) but craftworld eldar all look boring...
Orks: she thinks they have a really comic feel to them, and could be funny
Chaos Daemons: A long time ago i painted up some old metal Horrors in pink and blue, with blue ones coming out of pink ones, and vice versa, and she loves them since they look cool

I can see the modelling potential in all the forces, but i have no experience whatsoever with how to play the armies in question, or indeed, what i could actually take in each of them in a 200 point kill team to make it really killy. So before i go to my FLGS this weekend, and hand over my hard earned cash for the codex of one of the shortlisted forces, would my fellow Dakka members be so kind as to help me choose? If she likes it enough, she might get a ticket herself, and let me take my necrons (in my dreams, i guess...)

A flamer/screamer kill team could be nasty if played right

An ork kill team would probably be pretty fun but maybe a little squishy depending on what you bring.

But come on... Orks! Orks are great!

Exact opposite, really. Nobz + dedicated transport battlewagon = laugh at everyone who can't deal with AV 14 in a 200 point game.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

ORKZ! MORE ORKZ! WHY AREN'T ALL YOUR KILLTEAM ORKZ!?

But on a more serious note... There are a lot of really beefy, hard to kill options. For instance: Bikers. Twelve inch movement, 3 Twin-Linked 18' Str 5 shots each, +4 cover AND armor saves, and Dual Close-Combat weapons. Orkz is da way to go, mate!
Plus, bikes are almost ridiculously customizable in appearance. Part of the reason why I love mine so much.

"Just the act of orks looting it defiles it! There are Techpriests rolling over in their graves!" "Yeah! I'm rolling over them in their graves!"
"The usage of shipping containers is much like 40k technology: It's been handed down from tech-priest to tech priest, until none of us really remember how it works and we go through many pointless rituals in the belief that it will keep it alive. " - Dayspring
