They look cool I got to admit. However, and personally I am getting tired of these threads that are based on pricing, I hope that the community comes together and puts their foot down.
$25 plastic 25mm figure, I just bought the new beastman one 2 months ago for under $15 a 66% increase in price.
$50 for 10 plastic elite 25mm compare to Bestigor at $41.25, at $41.25 the price on 10 plastic models is ridiculous at just over $4 per figure now we are at $5 per figure.
$50 book up from $45.50 which is up from $33 for the softback, please give me the option for a softback!
And on the monster kit of $85 up from $54 on the beastmen, $58 on the terrorgheist and thundertusk.
Not going to comment on the other stuff as there really is nothing to compare it too, the $40 chariot while high is on par with the other single chariots. Just realize the more they push the envelope and we still support it the more they realize they can get away with it. This was done with Xbox and PS2 games, they started offering collectors editions with free in game content for $10-$20 more than the $40-$50 current pricing, a lot of people paid the extra money and the game companies knew they could push the price on the next gen systems. Lets band together here and vote with our dollars.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

The new characters seem interesting. I like to think the troll king dude has brain damage. I think we kind of are having too many 2 headed dudes in warhammer though. We already have fateweaver and galrauch right? So this tzeetch character is a 3rd one. Maybe it's just a tzeentch thing though.
I will admit the new dragon ogres look much better and i do like the pictures of their different weapons they can use. We'll have to see if they're worth using though. Good that it's a plastic kit now.
Dunno what i should think about the forsaken till i see how they perform in the game. They sound like the possessed chaos marines of fantasy a bit or more mutants than that.
The chaos chariot with gorebeast option sounds cool. How many times have they used the words 'death', 'doom', 'gore' and 'maul' on units or descriptions in the game? I know it's a lot it's just the word 'doom' is used on at least 3 units in the skaven codex and on 'doombulls' for beastmen so i just figure they should throw out new words.
I'm not sure what to think about the new monsters. As far as looks go they're pretty cool i guess.
-------------------
Something i've noticed about warhammer fantasy is that the new models have pretty much all been great or good unlike say some of the 40k stuff which can be completely stupid looking.
All the new warriors of chaos stuff looks good at the very least. It's not particularly my style and i'd like to see some new warriors and marauders too but whatever.
This release still hasn't had any fantastic models like the coven throne/mortis engine set. That model alone is a fantastic centerpiece model with at least one person saying they feared their painting (which i think the person was a good painter) would actually make the model look worse considering the beauty of it.

Did you see 'The Hobbit' army sets? GW is way insane with costs and they're forcing people to leave the hobby for it. Their loss.

I am far above the average income of my comparable demographic but prefer to use common sense before spending my money something, especially when we're looking at a likely price hike of 40-50%.

See but in this case I didn't delve into the hobby expecting it to get this high so fast, and I only started 3 years ago. If I knew how to and had the initiative and time I would start a pledge thread of boycotting these new items. They are not going to lower the cost until we as consumers say enough is enough. Kroothawk nailed it above, by paying a high price you are reaffirming their decision to increase costs. Even if you play WoC or DA I urge you to not pay these new outstanding prices.

It's just opinion vs. opinion, thus agree to disagree.
My main problem is that buying stuff at really outrageous prices accepting every price hike that might come will only lead them to continue doing so, further making the hobby less popular.
What am I supposed to tell people woh look into the GW hobby, about to start an army? How many people are willing to, if buying from GW directly, would spend hundreds of € just to start playing? Along with warning them about increases of 20-50% every year. High prices make people less likely to start / play and that's what really bothers me.
Resorting to ebay / recasts now :/

Im agree with this, just want say, that Warhammer world is quite good and people will play this game they will also start this game only think that GW will see, that people will buy alternative products from another figures companies to replace GW models, because they buy them for less money.

On the flip side, the models new models are quite spectacular, and are likely going to come with the standard points bump which 8th has seen. While your model may cost more, you need less (assuming you go for monsters) and each miniature has so much more detail for you to spend the time painting. Not to mention the brilliant # of extra bits they've been shoving in boxes lately.
GW really looks at their line as a "hobby" and expects players to put the same amount of time into painting a model as they do. If you build a model and paint it before moving on to the next their price hike, while unfortunate, doesn't sting quite so much. Where it hurts is when people go out to buy whole new armies, or who can't decide what they like and buy one of everything. Plan your list out, buy what you'll use, and try to paint each kit before getting the next. It'll still be more money, but it'll look like a bad *** $60 model when your done and feel worth it, rather than a $60 hunk of grey plastic.....
It may not be the best business ethic, but its not the end of gaming either.

oh and I'll share this. Information comes from a friend who is a die hard chaos player
"a few themes have risen:
-chariots are core, dragon ogres are special, and the new monsters are rare
-eye of the gods is still here, but much less prevalent
-sorcerers can use different lores depending on their mark, seems to be tzeentch can use metal, slaanesh can use shadow, and nurgle can use death, as well as their respective lores (either/or, not both)
-warshrine is more like empire wagon, gives area of effect but no offical word yet (just a rumor, not in WD)
-points costs are about the same, though marauders got a points spike (rightfully so)
-we still have to challenge/accept challenges with all characters
Thats about it from what we can tell, although it also looks like theyve put a definitive cap on armor to 1+, even changing skullcrushers to a specific 2+ before shields, so less confusion overall there."
hope this is good news for players on both sides of the chaos fence

This is what trolls can look like. And I think they should look like. If they come out with some nice plastic trolls, kind of like river, but less rolley-polley, I'd be interested.
In terms of cost, stuff just ain't cheap. If you've ever been to like an anime store that carries official miniatures, that stuff is hundreds of dollars per model.
I did a search on "action figure" in google. These are the first things that came up. This is wal-mart. The cheapest vendor on earth (just about). And these are terrible action figures with terrible quality.

The cost is what it is. Pay it or don't. It's certainly high, but the people who buy it will justify it and the people who don't wont.
The sculpts are, in my opinion at least, very hit or miss. I'm not a fan of the new monsters (though it may be the paintjobs, admittedly, the Slaughterbrute looks very cartoony with its current scheme) and the Forsaken look rather overly bulky.
However, I'm a fan of the new characters and the Chariot. Love the chariot. It alone is making me consider a WoC army.
My only questions are how these units preform and if Throgg is a look at what the future of Chaos Troll aesthetic is. Not a huge fan, looks a lot like a river troll on steroids.

yea, im torn... on one hand, the new models look pretty cool, and im glad the WOC are getting some love, as they were my first whfb army... but the price increasing is just...wow. 100$ canadian for the slaughterbeast, and 60 for a 10 man box of warrior size models? REALLY? the characters are cool and well sculpted but the cost just seems to get larger and larger.
now, ive always been the first to defend the pricing of GW, citing that they are a corporation and only care about the money, and its the corporations nature..
but the other half of me asks why cant they diversify? offer deluxe hardback books in addition to softback "plain" even black and white books for a smaller cost. IE: 35$ for the softback and 50$ for the hardback. offer the digital stuff on more then one platform, and price the minitures on the amount of material in the box, not if the units is "special", new, HQ, etc. i mean from a production end of things a standard sheet of plastic costs the same regardless of the moulds used, why should the new elite stuff cost more then an older kit?
i wont be buying the new WOC stuff, simply because im an ogres player now, and probally wont be doing WOC for a while (since 4 of my best 6 gaming buddies play them) but the price increasing on the new kits is just getting to be crazy. im dreading when the tau or tyranids get updated and the cost goes through the roof, or if they release some new ogre stuff wich does the same. i really think they dont quite care about the gaming comunity anymore and have let the corporate end take over.
- WD loosing all credibility and becoming 100% advertisment. (it was, but when i started it actually had interesting and actual content)
- removal of all articles on the GW website (no more step by steps, not even the "getting started with,..") - why???
- constant price hikes, not even from quarter to quarter, but release to release, regardless of 40k or whfb... again why?
- removal of bitz orders... this happened ages ago, and i have no idea why. now its impossible to order replacment parts or conversion pieces, and with kits costing a ton, its like they are trying to squeeze every single red cent out of everyone
- no support for the spec games.. they still sell them, but offer zero support. then they release new ones, and drop them less then 2 months later (dreadfleet?)
- no more advance warning for new releases. seems like the last advance notice was the dark eldar book, and since then we get 2 weeks if that? what do they gain by doing this? i would expect they would be able to sell alot more kits on release day if people knew about the new stuff well in advance and could plan, AKA budget for the new shiney expensive models with that 20% price hike.
sorry for the rant...just had to get that out.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. Looking at the models
Slaughterbeast/Mutalith - cool but hugely overpriced
Dragon Ogres - as above
Chaos Chariot - its alright
Gorebeast chariot- really don't like the gorebeast - dull stance and just looks silly IMO
Forsaken - really poor - look back at older models and wonder why these are so bad -
Chaos Lord - for me the worst figure - tries to be powerful and fails just looks like the other Chaos WArriors
Throgg - I lke him but not at that price.
Vilitch - like so mnay of the new stuff - just too much going on here - I compare him to my old Tzeentch models and find him lacking.
Army Book - hmm certainly seems to be some great art - but given the price will get on ebay
Knights of Rivendel - shame no archers :(

Well, Marauders were too cheap for what they brought to the battlefield and as 12 on the war shrine was way too good especially with cheese stuff like Chosen re-rolling everything, giving you a ~73% chance for a 12.
