Subject: CSM 1750: THE GREEN WAVE OF ROT!

Khorne Veteran Marine with Chain-Axe

Hello everybody,
Iám trying to make a semi-competitive nurgle themed 1750 armylist. I like the idea of a big green wave moving in on the enemy and being a very in your face army. My idea was to use small squads of plague marines for taking enemy objectives while riding around in rhinos shooting from the hatches. I gave the PM champions a PF and the other one a PA just to give them more punch against 2+ saves and/or vehicles. Typhus will walk with 20 zombies and act as a major speed bump for fast enemies. When they reach CC the zombie champion wil challenge and Typhus will destroy as much as he can so when the turn comes for him to challange i get a massive bonus from all the zombies watching. The other 20 zombies will act as a meatshield or will sit on my objective. The spawn and bikes will move out and go for heavy targets. My plan was to keep the spawn a bit behind the bikes so when they get in an assault the spawn can run in and assist them. The Obliterators and the defiler will provide supporting fire while walking behind the zombie shield.
When i face flyers i wil pretty much ignore them and try to wipe the table clean.
I would like advice on tactics or the list as much as possible.

I might drop the defiler and grab more nurglebliterators, or spawn.... actually you could drop the rhinos and make a few cuts here and there and grab another unit of nurglespawn, along with the bikes, which could be really threatening especially against flyer-heavy lists that can't cut them down first turn and then they are in combat.
I don't think the rhinos are as necessary, since you have the zombies and 90% of your games you will be able to win if you just are able to control the middle of the board, and are solid on secondary objectives (rhinos give up first blood often). You could even cut it back to two squads of 7 plague marines, and arm at least one squad with plasma so they can take shots from range.

Thank you for the comment.
I have a hard time deciding to use rhino's or not. I think you are right about the first blood give away but on the other hand I like the idea of mobility and protection. My plan was to go 18 inches with rhinos pop smoke and disembark and use the rhino as cover. I could ofc just footslug behind a wall of zombies and go with more Plasmaguns.
I have two more spawn on the way so iám thinking of making the squad 5x spawn. Maybe cut some points by removing PM champion weapons PF/PA. Wich also is a hard decision for me i liek the idea of a PF and PA in the squad to pack more punch but on the other hand they have to challenge and probably don't even get the chance to swing.

Well firstly, great paintjob.
The list seems a tad light on anti-air, you will encounter difficulties with flier spam.
Secondly, perhaps drop the defiler for a helldrake, they are in my humble opinion the best unit in the new codex. Mebbe spend the extra points on some spawn.
Finally, I do not think it is wise to remove the rhinos. They are a great addition and necessary in this type of list.

I'd say remove the power weaps if you are running min squads in the rhino, but if you are footsloggers in bigger units keep a power axe. It's worth it because PM's are survivable and he might get a chance to swing against a terminator, for instance.
Especially if you are going 18 inches first turn with those rhinos, prepare to give up first blood, that's all. But I would just march in behind the typhus/zombie wall, and all you need to do is control the middle most games to win. The zombies are cheap but they are still an investment, and they're slow. If the point is just to survive and take up space, then the more bodies with FNP the better.

Agreed. Take a Helldrake instead of a Defiler in any game. With the new FAQ they are more brutal. Good for taking out flyers too.
Why use melta bombs on a Champion with a Powerfist?
I would put MoN on the Oblits and put them in cover.
Keep the Rhinos and get extra armor for them(what good is a transport if they can't move). Use cover as much as possible to get them into position.

I ran a similar list. Also with one squad of bikes (though non nurgle mark). Just a tip, based on my games with such an army, the bikes are always the first to die. So, you have to be really careful with them if you don't want to give up first blood. Because even Nurgle mark bike die easily.
They just aim it with stuff like autocannons, missile launchers, ls cannons, and their toughness 6 doesn't seem to help much in that case. The reason is because the rest of the Nurgle army is really hard to kill off (though you have Rhinos, so maybe those will get aimed instead). So, the easiest way to get first blood is to usually aim to kill off the bikes.
So far, the bikes have just not done very much for me, so I am seriously considering swopping them out for other stuff. On the flip side, because they draw a disproportionate amount of attention from people, you could use them as a decoy/distraction so that they fail to target your other units.

I will have to play careful with the bikes but i think they are a good addition and the mobility is amasing.
You are right about the meltabomb will remove it.
I do not own a Helldrake and i don't think i will get one anytime soon. I don't like the look the prize and the rules.

The Plague Marines are very very expensive considering how many there are and what they are doing. You're wasting points on the Champions as it's unlikely they will end up assaulting anyway.
Do you need two units of 20 zombies especially when one unit is holding an objective? You do not need 20 guys to hold an objective. I would instead take a unit of 30 zombies and have the other 10 stay in reserve (at least buys one turn of them not getting shot at) and then have them walk on and claim.
No Heldrakes? How you gonna deal with flyers in this list btw?

I see what you mean i removed the Plague Marine weapon on the champions and made 2x5 squads with melta and 1 big Plague Marine squad with 2 Plasmaguns no rhino they will footslug behind the zombies. Also made the zombie squad smaller and i like the reserve idea a lot.
Against flyers my plan was to ignore them and wipe the table clean. with all the high toughness/ FNP and many bodies i hope to get most of it in CC turn 3-4 so flyers can't do much.

In that case, I would adopt a strat where you keep your rhinos more or less out of sight, or in reserve first turn... unless you really think you have the chance to wipe the table clean with a rush (in that case first blood won't matter), or at least advance them along table edges and in cover/smoke. Same with bikes and spawn, they rush up and hide in cover while typhus/zombies, oblits, and the big unit of plague march up the center.

I use Havoc launchers on my rhinos for PM squads. If you have some spare points its definitely worth doing, unless you know you'll be playing GK etc lol

That sounds like a good strategy. Hiding the rhino's or go 12" pop smoke.

could be a good choice but tbh i think my rhino's will be destroyed around turn 2 or 3 the reason i want them is increase mobility and provide a cover in midfield for disembarked plague marines but i will try some havoc launchers one game see how they fair.

I've been running Rhino's in my 1850 list with Dirge Casters who keep my units of Spawn company as they charge. Spawn with MON are very survivable, but, removing my opponents ability to shoot 'em up on the way in is well worth the 5pts per model.
Not a fan of Plague Zombies to be completely honest, so far all I've seen them do is give away victory points, if you want a meat shield go with a Imp Guard blob squad and paint 'em so that they look a bit ill and you're away!

I like the zombies always make me laugh when they start hitting power armor or even wounding an HQ with that many attacks.
Dirge caster is not a bad idea will probably put them on both rhino's

Cool about the list changes, though you will not wipe an army out by turn 2.

What i meant was flyers come in on turn 2 maybe 3 so i have some time to get most of the army in close combat. After that it is just a case of who kills who in CC. I didn't think i could clean the tale in two turns but i mention the table cleaning because that is the general idea if they don't have any ground units they can't do much. I want to take midfield control and overwhelm the enemy with the mobility of the rhino's, bikers and spawn.
But i understand your concerns about flyers and believe me iám worried myself Iám thinking of getting 5 havocs with 4x AC. The problem is i don't own any flyers or havocs.

i agree with dropping the defiler its to over priced and heldrakes are good for getting the guys in the back that are not in assualt. You should keep rhinos with the plague for the mobility they do have a good save and fnp but having them in a rhino helps protect them all the more. I wouldnt just ignore flyers they can do damage so i suggest getting a ageis defence line with a quad gun and you can put cheap guys to man it so its not super expensive.

That's true.
I removed the Defiler and tried some diffrent things with the points and came up with this:
total 6x Havocs:
MoN
4x autocannon
Icon of Vengeance (fearless)
I also added one more spawn to the squad to make it 5 x Spawn.
What do you guys think of this? Enough to counter flyers?
