Subject: In need of recomendation for Dark eldar/necron army

Hello to all.
In my last post i asked for recommendation between necron or dark eldars. I ended up deciding for the eldars but my brother is going to go for necron.
I dont know how to play, im currently on stowe, vermont and the bus to the nearest city with a game store doesnt pass on sundays but i got a lot of money to buy myself and my brother our armies but i need recomendation for both.
So far i have bought my dark eldars, consisting on
1 battleforce
1 pack of scourges
2 eldar venoms
1 ravager
1 archon
1 dark eldar succubus
Question here for me is what should i continue for? As i dont know the fine details of the game i dont want to box myself in a specific build.
I was thinking of a razorwing jet, are they worthy? Are the inccubus?
Do i need more scourges and/or more troops like wyches or kabalites?
For what i can gather dark eldars are a strike fast kinda army. So i should concentrate on vehicles right?
On the necron side of things. I heard necrons are very good right now so i am thinking on buying the megaforce and a bunch of units and a monotlih.
Thank you for any recomendation.

With dark eldar you should pick a route. I would recommend the Kabal. This means you should take Kabalite units like warriors, trueborn, and put them in Raiders. Ravagers should back up the army and deal with tanks. The Voidraven is an okay flyer, but they're pretty lacking in general. The DE aren't a very good army right now but you can specialize to make them playable. Necrons I would recommend Immortals, some of their flyers, and some anihilation barges

Well to be fair, De requiers some amount of practice to make good. I find them to be more than then a mach for what I encounter in my local club.

Yeah but he said he was a new player, so I have extreme doubts on how well he could do with DE right off the bat. I tried it and failed horribly

Well thing is this is my only shot to buy armies. In my country is just too expensive.
But i may just asked a too broad question. Maybe just narrow it down to specifics doubts
1) scourges or hellions or reavers for fast attack? For an army all about hitting fast and hard.
2) Are the beastmaster/beast worth it? I dont particulaly like the models but are they at least worth it on the table?
3) For elites: i like inccubis & harlequins. Are they worth it?
I dont particularly like wrecks and talos pain/chronos models, are they worth it on the table?

1) if you had to take one? I would say reavers, but a lot of people disagree
2) if you want something shocking? 5 Beastmasters w/ all razorwing flocks. Lots of rending+wounds and if you throw them out of a WWP they're nasty
3) both choices are pretty good

Uhh... no. That's not true at all. They do require practice but will be devastating with a good list and good tactics. It'll take a while to get used to them, but units like Reavers and Ravagers are just gold. The flyers are overpriced a lot but you can get around this. Beastmasters are insane. Incubi will cut through anything short of TH/ SS termies - run 6-8 for maximum effect and to muscle through overwatch. Taloi aren't worth it except as a scare tactic, although they are a cheap T7 MC. Wracks are the cheapest way to get access to a Venom, the best transport in the codex.
A guide may be:
1. Get a HQ. Generally avoid SCs as the basic ones are so good - haemies are great for cheap FnP.
2. Stack up on troops. At 2k points I run 5, which is generally considered a lowish number. Warriors for shooting infantry, Wyches with haywire grenades for insane AT.
3. Heavy support. Commonly used are 3x Ravagers, but you may want 2x plus a flier or 2x fliers plus a Ravager. If used correctly on turn 2, the Razorwing will decimate stranded infantry. (pop a unit's transport turn 1 with the Ravager and slaughter the infantry on turn 2 with the Razorwing).
4. Elites and Fast Attack. Scourges are very difficult to use and will rarely make their points back. Incubi are a simple point and click unit which is best charged at expensive MEQ. Beastmasters are fast, tough to kill and brutal in an assault. Reavers are one of the best units in the codex.

Thanks for the guide
But i have a couple of questions, you said that flyiers are overprice but there are ways arround that, could you explain that?
You said that scourges arent worth their point cost, why?
You say that wracks are the best way to access venom, how that works? Can i just put venoms on the table with wyches on them.
And lastly from what i already have i should add a box of kabalites, wyches, ravager, inccubi and reavers?
As for the necron army for my brother, is the megaforce recommendable?
Thanks

I disagree as well. With the current meta trending heavily towards foot slogging armies, my DE (mostly kabalites on Raiders with a small haemy contingent) are actually BETTER then they were in 5th. If you know how to maximize your mobility and have even a novice understanding of how to focus your strength, the DE are pretty tough to beat.

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..." |
