I wrote GW support to see what their official stance is on addressing the missing flyer rules.
Here is the response.

Hello,

Thank you for writing into us. About the White Dwarf 389 that has the Flyer Rules, those issues did sell out and we have none available. We have asked that the rules for the Flyers be put on the Games Workshop website but I don't know when or if they will be put on the website and for that I apologize. We do have a customer service copy of the rules, so if you give us a call at 1-800-394-4263 we can go over the rules with you. Should you have any other questions please give us a call at 1-800-394-4263 and we will work to get you helped out.

Sincerely,

Games Workshop

Awesome. I have a "Legitimate backup scan" of the rules but it was poorly "legitimately backup scanned". A high quality PDF would be great.

Customer Service is not really an 'official source'. Ask them again and you'll get a different answer.

So you have to phone GW customer service and they will read you the rules over the phone for you to write down?

And then you will take your hand written rules to your next game and try to convince your opponent they are official?

It is official. It's addressed from Games Workshop North America. That's official.

You must be new here. There are several reasons that GW Customer Service has never been considered official in YMDC and most folks with experience dealing with them just chuckle and nod.
1) We have no proof that your 'e-mail from GW' is really an e-mail from GW and not forged/spoofed/etc. For example, here's an e-mail I got from GW today:
Hello,

Thank you for writing into us. About Sisters of Battle, we will be releasing plastic sisters and a new codex in June. Don't tell anyone though because this is Top Secret. Should you have any other questions please give us a call at 1-800-394-4263 and we will work to get you helped out.

Sincerely,

2) It has been proven that multiple e-mails to GW Customer Service the same day will return different answers on the same question.
3) These are the lowest level employees manning an e-mail box. If you have ever been in customer service before you know that this means not only do they not know much to anything about what is really going on, but may provide incorrect information (un)intentionally on a daily basis.

Which makes his response even more funny. Either he knew and couldn't tell you or he didn't know and couldn't tell you.

Either way, asking Customer Service is like asking YMDC. I.e. your mileage may vary.

I completely agree with you, but at the risk of being devil's advocate, doesn't point number one show that point number two is inherently unknowable?

Also, you shouldn't give away Top Secret GW email stuff like that. Someone could lose their job.

Dude. Games Workshop is a company. If they publically say something, it is said by Games Workshop plc. It is not a rule in the game that they make.

Hey, I don't fault you. Seems to make sense. Would be true for any company, right? Unfortunately not true for ole GW.

Publicly saying something is very different from providing an official stance. In either case, an e-mail is not them 'publicly saying something'. It is them privately responding to your inquiry. If, in response to your e-mail, they updated their web page or had a press conference, that would be public.

This. I don't think I will ever except "A guy emailed me and said xxxxxxxxx" as a valid answer to a rules debate at a tournament.

I should also follow that up with this statement: It isn't because I don't trust GW, it is because I don't trust the guy. What is to stop me from saying anything I want and claiming it to be from an "official email?"

Yep. GW even pointed that specific scenario out in a WD way back when. They gave an anecdote about a guy that called in a rules question during a game and supposedly told his buddies the opposite of what the rep on the phone had just told him before hanging up.

Now I like to imagine GW's customer service like some sort of 911 phone line that you can call when people are squabbling at a game.
