Hi,

I got a nice bargain on Ebay of some mini's which where already painted.

I've been able to strip acrylics off minis in the past using Detol disinfectant but these ones seem to have some sort of sticky paint on them. As I've have got the bulk off them, but there seems to be blobs of sticky paint left on them that I''ve been having to remove with tweezers, a very messy job and they are still not ready to be primed.

Has anyone got any idea what could be leaving a sticky painty residue on them and how i can remove it? btw they are plastics

I was thinking that it is some sort of oil based paint that the Detol isn't touching, as they have been soaked for well over 72 hours now and it doesn't make any difference.

Any help that is offered will be greatly received as i'll soon be on the way to my second CSM squad!! More blood for the blood god!

Strong bleach/dettol/stripper for 24hrs and then scrub the hell out of them with an old tooth brush.
Use a needle to clean the small details

if it is not all off, put it back in the chemicals for another 24hrs and repeat the process.

I used this process when stripping/repainting 100 AoBR orks

You could try mineral spirits, grab a q-tip (the thing you use to clean your ears, not sure if its called the same thing on that side of the pond). and try a test swatch, like on the underside of the mini.

If they are metal figures, use brush restorer. It will rip off anything.

It will dissolve plastic too, so you'll need spare bases. DO NOT put plastic or resin models in it.

It is a vile dangerous mixture of solvents and should not be thrown away into the drain. You must take the used up liquid to the council dump for safe disposal.

Jesus Christ guys.

Use linseed oil for god sake. It'll make it more liquid.

Which is how we make even more dangerous critters than the ones that naturally evolve.

WE call it forced evolution. 'Course it means the new breeds hate us even more, though.

How many threads are there with this advice?

Might not help you this time, but next time use "Fairy Powerspray", smells better, works better, and doesn't leave residues like that behind!

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." Fairy won't work on oil paints.
Oil, technically, never dries.
Use metholated spirits / terps or any other strong, alcohol-based painter stripper.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Turpentine doesn't work on acrylic. At all. If anything it softens the plastic.

You could try it for oil though, I'd love to hear if it works and whether it's just acrylic that it has no effect on.
