Hey guys, so im looking at converting my guard army in such as way as to be able to represent either chaos or imperial guard. Now my biggest issue is, alot of them are already painted so i dont want to start removing eagles from them and ruining the paint jobs on them. Any suggestions on how to make a force that can represent both depending on the game? Thanks in advance guys

Well, I am currently working on my traitor guard at home, here's the key points of what I am doing:

Remove the heads from the basic infantry. It's the second most prevalent eagle, I'm currently looking for new heads, but this step is going to be one of the more army defining things.

Custom models. I converted some custom models for my infantry SGTs, they are skeletons wearing IG flak vests and holding las pistols. I made their regular swords into power swords with the paint work.

Chaosy bits on the vehicles.

I will eventually be working custom built commisars and officers, all of them being liches and such.

I removed the eagles from the lasguns on the infantry. I know you said you didn't want to, but I find it helps the look.

remember traitor guardsmen can be fooled - they might think they're still fighting for the Emp but are really fighting for chaos.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

This. Leave the dumb grunts as is, they just follow orders and have no idea whether their officers are obeying Chaos or the Emperor.

Keep the customising for officer and character models, some of which would be unique to one or other army - but even they would mostly follow the colour scheme of your basic IG troops.

Or, just "defile" the eagle on the weapon and helmet. Make it look like it has been crossed out, destroyed, etc.
