What do you guys enjoy most about the painting/modelling aspect of the hobby? For me it's the planning. I love being preoccupied for several weeks thinking about my next project, like do the conversions in my head before I actually execute them. I also love basing miniatures since it's usually the final touch and when I'm done with the base I got eyt another completed miniature!

Good question. I find painting in general to be therapeutic. No matter how bad of a day I'm having, when I sit down to paint I am able to leave it all behind. I really like when I get past the basecoat and get to add details and whatnot, because that's when you can really get lost in a model.

I love everything about modelling. I have school and work all during the week so before going to bed it tends to melt all the problems away and I can then see the final product in front of me and you feel accomplished.

My favorite part though would easily be basing. I love trying new things and you can add lots of little details to really make things pop.

Exactly what RayofPaint said. It's an escape from the hustle of life. I could have had the worst day of my life but when I sit and paint, all the worries go away. I just put my headphones on and drift away for a few hours. The best part is seeing the finished product, especially after spending 30 or 40 hours on a character.

I love greenstuff work and basing. Which is why my two favorite armies are Death Guard (a lot of greenstuff work!), and Catachans (extravagent jungle bases)

I like watching my models go from a pile of grey plastic parts to dynamic, expressive soldiers ready to carry out your every order.

I love the creativity and freedom this hobby gives me, i can virtually make anything and it fits in the realm of 40k. If i want to make a guy with a dragon head and eagle wings and give him 2 blades for arms and paint him pink and yellow.... i can. Its a great escape a place of zen almost lol. Also seeing a finished product and looking back at models and seeing how ive gotten a little better each time, to me thats very satisfying.

Pretty much everything about the hobby. I especially love converting, because I have so many ideas in my head I can make them in 3D instead of just on paper. I always choose some sort of miniatures game that has some sort of conversion part to it, which is why I really like 40k and (unfortunately) not much else. In 40k I get to express my ideas on how things work and I can make my army expressive, but with Warmahordes you can't do an extreme amount of conversion. Painting can be extremely fun, but I always have to be in a mood for it, and when I'm done painting one thing I have to wait a bit of time before the next thing.

My favourite part is probably modelling and basing, where I'm making things that are completely unique. And the latter parts of painting, where I'm really bringing out the small details and making the model come to life.

I also love how easy it is to block out all the worries from the rest of my life when I'm really focusing, it's a great stress reliever.

Personally, the above 2 quotes ring true for me! RayofPaint & lennymaybe FTW! I find it EXTREMELY therapeutic!

One of the aspects of the hobby I appreciate, other than being able to share it with the family, is that there is always something to do depending on my mood. If I'm just killing time or talking to someone else, I can clip sprues or do tasks that take time but not necessarily my full attention. Or, I can really focus on the tasks that take 100% of my attention.

My favourite part is probably the assembly. I really like modelling, converting and customising. Working with the knife and the plastic glue is my happy place.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with painting. On one hand it's something I really enjoy. On the other hand I'm a bit of a perfectionist about it, and can sometimes end up torturing myself with it.

I also like glueing stuff together better then anything else. But the problem is the bare plastic stuff starts to pile up and its unfortunately not possible for me to buy enough plastic crack to keep me glueing all the time ^^

but i aslo very much enjoy painting... its so relaxing and the pride you feel when a project is finished is an added bonus.

on top of that i also like playing but a large faction of the appeal of tabletop gaming comes for me from the optical appeal of the board and the minis.

So very many things.

1- It's my quiet time away from the kids and everything in life. My painting area is in the corner of my basement where the kids are scared to go. It is where I get to relax and destress.

2- I love creating things, from building to painting. It nice to look at something that I took from bare metal/plastic and make it all nice and shiny.

3 - The sense of accomplishment when I finish a project

4 - Its my space and no one comes in there but me.
