Hey guys,

I've been thinking bout buying AB.

I play 40k and Fantasy, just started out with a WoC army. But I'm having a hard time calculating saves, ward saves and so on, because my math skills are worse than garbage, due to the lack of I havent any math teacher in school (yay!).

can AB help me calculate what my save and ward saves are, when making my army into AB?

How much does the tool cost, and yearly sub?

Have Woc been updated yet in AB, and how fast does new codexes usually get updates in AB?

The yearly sub is only for the update function, which you can do yourself just as easily.

See:

for pricing.

Thanks for the reply mate.

I also posted on their official forum, but due to it could take hours before my thread was confirmed (they require that before the thread goes up ), and some says:

"AB includes the Editor to make changes and additions to the data files. So you can make whatever changes you want. Please note, however, that there is some learning curve to using the Editor. "

So doesnt sound as easy as you want it to be

You don't have to do anything to the data files unless you feel like doing crazy stuff like adding a new unit/race or you are helping update things for the developers. All the data files are maintained by 3rd party groups which you can freely download, you don't have to do any of that yourself. Once you have installed the core program you just add on all the game data files that you want and update them as you need to.

I'm not sure what is hard about calculating armour or ward saves. Armour saves are just addition or subtraction based on what the user in wearing and ward saves are usually fixed based on wargear. But yes it will show you the full statistics of each model/unit in your list, including any armour or ward save/s they have (but usually they don't have the details of the special rules, which you need the codex/rulebook for).

As mentioned the yearly sub is completely optional (you always have it for the first year I think), all it does is let you use an inbuilt update program to download data files for different game systems. You can do this manually (and often earlier than the inbuilt updater can) by simply going to the maintainers/developers website and downloading it yourself.

Usually there is about a one month delay in between a codex/army book being released and it being available in the Army Builder data files. Remember this is not a GW product, so people can only start making the Army Builder version once the hard copy rules are actually released.

I know many probably find it easy but I have lack of math skills

And I do have the new WoC codex, and the 8th Ed Rulebook. I will mostly use AB to help me calculate, and to just make fast army lists.

Thing is I bought my whole WoC army, and it would be alot easier for me to just type in AB and make it calculate for me.

But looks like I have to wait some time yet to use it, as it hasn't been updated.

Check out BattleScribe, There a quiet a few dakka posts on the subject, Its apparently free and easy to use.

AB is ok but its not worth the money IMHO (and this is coming form a guy who bought it back when I still did the 40k thing).

Also it kinda irks me that a company of their size and specialty has a kickstarter up to create a piece of software.....

Now with 100% more blog....

I've been looking at battlescribe, but couldnt get it to work.

You need to find somewhere to download the source to be able to make your army list in it, which I wasnt able to do.

I personally wouldn't use any other program to do my army list.

It's user friendly. There are other options like battle scribe but go fo army builder.

I've been using Battlescribe, but it doesn't calculate stats, ward saves and so on - only army list

Neither does armybuilder. There are no army building software packages that build in mathammer calculations for you that Im aware of.
If its working out ward saves and to hit rolls you need, then neither Bs or Ab will help.
