Hello, I wonder what the mark of the wulfen is. My one friend really hate space wolves because as he qotes "they are supose to be good at everything". He really cannot stand the mark of the wulfen curse as in the old fluff they where chucked into the 13 company or put down when they got it. My experience with SW streches to the new SW codex where I think they changed the fluff of the wulfen. What I like about the SW is their savagery and the dualaty that they might be on the very edge of damnation but they might also make it. It seems like chaos mutations takes the form of wolf men.

I really like brand the redmaw, I have made him myself. However I thought that some sudenly became lynchatropic, is this wrong?

There are no wolves on Fenris, as they say.

The Mark of the Wulfen is a mark (So far so good) which denotes a Space Wolf that can lose control during combat and go a bit... crazy.
Wulfen are usually killed in the chapter itself. The 13th company is a special case considering their location.
Your friend is incorrect.

I recommend you to listen" Thunder from Fenris" and "Doomseeker" audio dramas and see how one wulfy can wrack havoc amongst chapter elites:-)...

There are a lot of theories about the Wulfen but I 'll leave you to judge by yourself...

All I know that they are failed aspirants who can't control canix helix, they are either killed or (if they can be controlled ) used by wolf priests (on a chain)
,ofc there are some who went bezerk even after they passed the trial...

Also mutation is actually protectiong them from "mutation" (silly I know) or entropy of the warp (great 13th company who has a lot of wulfen), so this is not chaos related IMHO, only plain old gene tampering...

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

I agree with Mark of the Wulfen being a mark to denote if a character will go kinda bonkers in battle, whereas wolf-bitten, in the Space Wolf novels, denotes a marine falling into the curse. I think if Wolf-Bitten were written into the codex, I don't think it would allow the model to be in a squad as the model is too uncontrollable, but would be absolutely BRUTAL in close combat. The curse of the Wulfen is thought to be a defense mechanism in the Space Wolf geneseed to prevent accidental corruption by chaos, which is why the 13th is full of wulfen, save the priests and Lord Bulveye. Speaking of Bullveye, he makes the awesomeness of Draigo and Mephiston seem kinda lame. "Oh you have been trapped in the warp for a century? And you overcame your gene flaw and were reborn stronger? You kids keep getting cuter every day!"

They aren't werewolves, though. Being bitten by a Wulfen doesn't turn you into one.
For the record, while cool, I do think the Wolf card is overplayed just a teensy bit in the new SW Codex. They're Space Vikings, dammit, not werewolves.

And SW aren't supposed to be good at everything. They're supposed to be good at close quarters combat (not necessarily hand-to-hand), though their fluff does have them as somewhat more divided into specialists than other marines.

The flaw in this is that the 13th company existed prior to being sent into the warp, they were originally made up of those marines who were effected by the curse during the Great Crusade. It is the fact that they have been alive so long that alot of them have fully fallen to their wulfen side.
