This is a very noobish question i know but thats because I am one.
I got the Dark Vengeance box set mainly for the rule book and intended to sell the sprues to go towards getting armies of my choice.
I loved the CSM miniatures though and decided to keep them and use thema s the start of one of my armies but I'm not too bothered about the Dark Angels and was planning to put them on ebay.
However, i love the DA terminators and wondered if its possible to use them in an IG army (once i've made it) as i remember seeing something about allies in the rulebook somewhere but i couldn't get my head around the system for including them in another army or should i just sel lthem too?

Cheers!

Oh and I need 2 armies because this is something I only play with my dad (at the moment unitl i get brave enough to go elsewhere) in my spare room. I made two full armies for WHFB, skaven and empire and it took forever but its the only way i can ensure we spend some quality father son time together these days, now i'm all grown up (lol) and living in the next town. If i hadn't had the urge to look into 40k a few weeks ago my pockets wouldnt be £60 lighter right now lol,

The allies system works as follows: 1 HQ and troops choice mandatory, then you may include any of these: 1 fast attack, 1 heavy support, 1 elite, and 1 additional troops choice. So you could have 1 terminator captain, a five man tactical squad and your termies. Or, if you just like the models and only do friendly games, you might be able to use them as ogryns.

You could use the Librarian model as a prescience Libby in a Plasma Cannon 5 man tactical squad and then use the 5 man Terminators as your allied detachment Elites choice.

I saw someone say something about prescience Libbies allied to IG and it does sort of make sense when I think about improving BS3. Prescience gives you a rerollable to hit roll when shooting, which on BS3 or 4+ means roughly a 75% or +25% chance to hit. That's 150% the hit rate. DA Prescience Libby has a WS5 Force Weapon with a Bolt Pistol and Power Armor for only (EDIT) very cheap pointz - so it's a solid close combat HQ that can increase one of your shooting unit's effectiveness by 50%.

The Terminators you could Deep Strike downfield to provide threat to the enemies backfield and maybe get you a Linebreaker Victory point.

You could also use the Dark Vengeance Company Master model as an Azrael. Azrael provides a 4+ invulnerable save to the unit that he joins - since DA are battle brothers with IG that means you could have him join one of your IG units, giving them a 4+ invulnerable save. Then you could skip the Tactical Squad and ally in your Deathwing Terminators as a troops choice along with the Ravenwing Bikers as a troop choice.

Fang, son of Great Fang, the traitor we seek, The laws of the brethren say this: That only the king sees the crown of the gods, And he, the usurper, must die.

Doesn't the termies-as-troops rule apply to primary detachment only?

To the OP: If you like the models, keep them. You can use all of them as allies to your IG. There is also enough DA in DV box to field a full small army on their own, so you might want to try that as well. Later you can expand them into a larger army if you like their playstyle.

It does. So no go for DW or RW to fill that mandatory slot.

However, cheap librarian in a blob of guard for ATSKNF and prescience re-rolls is pretty devastating if you kit them out with and LC and plasma gun in each squad. It's kinda nasty when you get to reroll your misses, and with FOMT, your opponent has to re-roll cover saves. You would have to pay for a tactical squad, which is rather annoying, but at least a 5man squad can take a heavy weapon. All in all, it's only going to be about 150pts. Not bad really.

You could easily fit in either RW or DW as an FA or Elites choice. Maybe for a counter-charge unit, or an alpha strike unit with DW assault. Just don't go crazy on their points.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

In short
Yes, You can ally both dv armys to guard.

You cant just use the terminators though.
If you look at the force organisation chart on page 109 of the rule book you will see that if you want to take allies you must take one hq and one troop choice from your desired allies codex, you can then expand that with a single elites choice ie the terminators.

Keep the dark angels, it gives you the troop choice (tactical squad) and your choice of two hqs which you will need if you want to play the terminators as allies.

Ah i see, thanks a lot, makes sense i suppose - to bring an ally in you need to bring in someone to lead them as they're not likely to pay as much attention to an IG leader as a DA one! Logical.

Thanks for the responses, i am tempted to keep the models and try playing with them too now lol good job i like painting
