I've been playing WFB for some time now. I've always been primarily more interested in the game side of things.
But now is the time for me to start a new army and get in touch with the hobby side of warhammer.

I've owned High Elves, Warriors of Chaos, Empire, Dwarfs and Vampire Counts. I currently play Orcs and Goblins.
An escalation league is beginning in my area and as such it's an opportunity for me to try something new.
I'm torn between two armies to cut my hobbyist teeth on.

What will it be, Dakka?

Bretonnians or Wood Elves?

yeah, if we're speaking strictly the hobby aspect, then Brets, imo.

Wood Elves, who doesn't like re-rolls to hit on short range s5 shooting?

Humans are mundane and boring, plus hippies have the best smokin' herbs.

I would say go for which ever one you like the look of more. For example I have a Mono Tzeench WoC army which I started under the last book however I didnt take the chosen star or the Knight bus. Yes I didnt win all the time but it was a fun list. Heck my Daemon army is mixed god and I dont run the Hordes of Blood Letters (I even run a DP as my general).

How is this still tied?!

Or you are anticipating the new book.

I don't expect either book until after Lizards, High Elves and Dark Elves.

Anywho... neither is a weak army, they just have rather limited choices.

I would not choose either, both must be renewed, both their rules and their miniatures.

Lizardmen or beastmen seems best option.

Brets you can do a monty python themed army.

Bretonnia was my first army, then I quitted them because of so many all-cavalry armies people like and lack of variety, so I started a huge Tilean Dogs of War army.

After some years far from Warhammer, now I like to read about infantry bretonnian armies and I think if you try to mix on foot minis and cavalry ones, plus the Trebuchet and Battle Pilgrims, your army gets an impressive look and nice performances on the battlefield.

So Bretonnia is no longer my favourite but If I had to choose, I'd go for Brets.

Wood Elves got better looking models but are the worst army in the game as of now. Bretonnia can work quite well. I'd go for Wood Elves because I prefer their look plus you can get models for cheap by using Lord of the Rings models.
