As i have been on playing a yr it just seems that you can only build armys one way. each dex has one good build type and that's what you have to use to have any chance of winning. just fined it strange that a game that's you take so many diffrent types of unis has so few army types. Why can't i build a army how i want and use whats good for me. like i love tac termys and always do good for me but no you have to use th/ss termys. and you can't use preds take landriders if you want a tank. seem gw sells so many useless army units.

That not true. There are multiple builds to armies.

For example with the Guard you can run Blob, Mech, or Hybrid.

There are different builds types, you just need to see how you want to play them. If anything ask here on the forum. People will always share their opinion (for better or worse)

You don't have to use certain units to win, unless your Chaos (hehe). But there isn't a win-everything build in any army; there are 'optimal' lists, but by no means 'can only win lists'. Many armies have a variety of builds that suit a certain play style.

I use Tactical Terminators constantly and 3 Predator Annihilators with them.

I also play Black Templars.

Some of GW's codex writers don't understand the phrase "internal codex balance," Phil Kelly in particular. But if you want to discuss what tactics are viable or what army lists can be used within a Codex, because there are disagreements and there is variance, consult the Tactics and Army List forums, start reading and take notes. You might find something you haven't thought of before.

Just very frustrating to find out that whau run in ur army sucks our you shouldn't use that like why do you always have to have3 landrieder in sm army. but when i use them full of troops and termy with hammers still don't win

I get what you're saying. There is some choice in most lists, but they tend to center around 2-3 viable builds. There are many units that look cool in the codex and awesome on TT that you will simply never use. (There are 3 build types for IG like Cappizzano mentioned, but none of them involve Ogryns or Ratlings for example)

Of course some armies have it better than others; it's one of the reasons I gave up orks. (Hmmm, do I want to run 30 lootas, or be sure of losing? VARIETY!)

Orcs to me were very fun with an assortment of builds. I play sisters. They are probably the most limited if you want to talk about "1 build list armies" one troop choice only and one unit with access to 48" range. Yes they have some quality for HQ, Celestine and Jacobus

So, yes, I'd be willing to believe in the idea that each codex has a platonic "perfect list", one for which we can strive, but never fully achieve.

That said, saying that there is only one good list per codex is blatantly false. Even if there were, things are constantly changing, so what that one good list would be would be constantly shifting around.

As it turns out, though, it's not. This myth is perpetrated by people who believe that 40k is a proper strategy game and that by getting just a little better with player skill or getting just that much better of a list, the increase in over all power will allow you to more consistently beat people.

It turns out, though, that the better you and your lists get, the more difficult it is to make them better, and the smaller gain you get from each advancement. Eventually you hit a point where the difference in things like list quality and player skill pale in comparison to the fact that 40k is a dice game, and the random element is much more determinant of the game results than tiny tweaks to your list.

As such, you only need to make a list that's good enough, and play it well enough, and the dice will decide the rest. If your scope is good enough, then every codex has at least a few kinds of lists that are competitive, and several codices have a bunch.

TL/DR - If you think that each army has exactly one list they can be competitive with, you don't understand the game, and furthermore lack creativity.

You don't always have to have a Landraider in a SM army.

There are plenty plenty plenty of SM army-builds that don't use a single Landraider.

Why are you so worried about building tourney lists if you're only a year into the game? You should be focusing on having fun and learning how YOU can use your units the best.

Also, if you want good, helpful list-critique, I suggest posting your list in the Army-List forum.

I dotn't like to post list as people just bash ur list and make my list makeing skills suck so i just us a lot of internet list and most peopl think the only good lest are truny type list. I have a pub truny in june that i want to go to as i realy don't have a chance to play any one else's but my bothers tau and orks. so i like to go to truny to meet players and play different armies i don't care to win it all just like to have a army people won't laugh at when i show up happened once mad me feel like a fool. took 4tac squads in rhinos 2dreads 10tac termys with chaplain 2pred 1vin 3attack bikes allhb. i no all nevr beat op armys lime gk necrons csm. just want to try and make friends and players i can play with and not just my bro
