I was wondering, here recently I've been hearing how the Valk sucks, but the Vendetta rocks. Now I get why people like the Vendetta 3 twin-linked lascannons and still a transport
But they aren't the same beast. The Valk is a great troop killer at 130 with the multiple rocket pods, the multi laser, and for 10 more points the door gunners...that's a lot of firepower. Not going to threaten a tank, but with 6th I'm expecting to see more infantry anyway. But even at 110 with door gunners and the missiles it looks to me like a good 'all comers' flyer. The Vendetta would be gak against an ork or nid horde army, or hell an IG foot horde army. I do think the Valk might have issues against Necrons, GK, and MEQs but it's going to be bringing Vets with meltas so...I dunno.
The Vendetta also has the option for hellfury missiles over it's lascannons, but I can't see why you'd take them. While the Valk is more tooled for a mixed role or pure anti infantry, the Vendetta seems to be a true tank hunter. The hellfuries ignore cover. But, they are one shots, and giving up twin linked lascannon for that seems...wrong.
Big reason I'm weighing the two options is 1. I have my first Valk NIB coming in from Ebay. Thing is I don't think they put the bitz in to make a Vendetta, and 2. I have bitz to make maybe 2 TLL for it. (I have a trade thread for them right now) 3. I have a metric ton of missiles from kits both real world and fantasy. 4. I don't want to be cheesy I settled on just one flyer to keep games friendly, instead of spamming. (Besides my mech/hybird IG has plenty of chimeras for spam)

Two things:
1) Hellstrike missiles are garbage. They're ordnance so your other weapons are shooting at BS 1, so the only reason you'd even consider taking them is if you desperately need another flyer transport but can't afford the extra 30 points for a Vendetta.
2) Vendettas are awesome because IG need AA and anti-tank way more than they need anti-light-infantry. Valkyries do the same things your lasguns/Basilisks/etc already do, while Vendettas do something no other unit in the codex can do.
In short: never take Valkyries. Always take Vendettas.

Just magnetize the weapons. Then you don't need to choose.

TBH I wouldn't bother. The situations where you'd want to have a Valkyrie (of any type) instead of a Vendetta are so incredibly rare that it's not worth investing the extra effort in magnetizing everything unless you really love magnets.

Okay is there any reason to take the Hellfuries over the TLL? Cause I really see none, other then have a cover buster, but even then, it's not it's role.

I have magnets it's just they are a bit to big for most stuff. (they fit beautifully in a dreadnought's arm section though.)

If you are playing low points values and spamming flyers, that handles your anti-horde. Even so, it's pretty "meh". One-shot large blasts I don't find to be as good as Multi-rocket pods for the same price and same job. Automatically Appended Next Post: Peregrine wrote:

If you're running Flyer-spam, A Valkyrie or two is not a bad choice. The same goes for someone with an interest in Elysians; if they ever were to try out the list, the Valkyrie isn't a bad selection.

I like the Valk, cause I tend to run tank heavy lists with plenty of antitank. With magnets to switch out weapons, as needed.

Hey! The first time you have not called something garbage. I will just ignore the first part though.
I have to agree with Peregrine on the Vendettas are better. IG do tend to have enough multilasers to obliterate a mob of orks in one go, so taking a vendetta to obliterate other fliers and enemy tanks seems like a given.
I would take Valkyries if I wanted to have fun with missiles or if I wanted to nuke a horde army when it is coupled with the rest of my guns.

I run an MRP Valk occasionally. It's ok. I like the model, but there's nothing to say about it other than it's ok. Don't expect it to change the tide of the game.
What I do like about it though, is that I'm less scared to lose it by dropping it into hover mode than my Vendettas. So while the vehicle itself may only be mediocre, the fact that I'm not scared to lose it, means I'm more ballsy with how I deploy troops from it.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

That's what I find too. My Detta is more like a tactical sniper carefully picking off targets from a distance while my Valk is the aircraft equivelent of Rambo, firebombing an enemy position and then dropping vets on an objective deep in enemy territory.

Well here's the thing at 2500 points, I'll have a Command squad with plasmas, 2 melta vets squads (one of which will ride the Valk/Vendetta)...A Vanquisher with Pask, even a Devil Dog and a Manticore...isn't that enough armor busting? Also the kit is now sitting in my lap and no one will trade me lascannons. T-T

You don't have any spare Lascannons left over from Heavy Weapon Teams?
I say in the meantime just use it as a Valk until you get the pieces to magnetize it into a Vendetta. You can experiment playing with flyers, and if you prefer sending your guys gung ho into enemy territory, the Valk maybe better suited to you.

I'm magnetizing. In another edition or 2, they'll suddenly rock and I'll be ready.......
