I'm just starting up again but noticing a lot of people including recon choices in lists
Simple question
Why ?
Are they there to grab objectives or find enemy ambushes ?
Sorry if this is a stupid question

Ambushes and removing Gone to Ground.

Unarmoured recon also benefited from the save buff that v3 game them. 3+ save and cautious movement can make them hard to kill.

Being able to deny ambushes on critical positions on the battlefield is really important. I often forced my opponent to place his ambush in his own deployment area instead near my forces.

Also, gone to ground and concealed units are hard to kill ... even more if they are in bulletproof cover. Removing gone to ground not only makes them more vulnerable but allows you to shoot at a gone to ground dug in (or concealed) Veteran unit from long range. You need that against the pesky british 6pdr guns and similar for example. They have 24" range and if they are veterans you cant shoot them until you get closer than 16" (if they stay gone to ground).

In FoW, its always good to have at least 1 of every element imo to prepare for anything (recon, AA, arty, etc)

Some recon is pretty inexpensive anyways, although those tend to be like 3-4 infantry stands

Recon is almost an essential. For all the reasons said above really, without it you can cope, but you have to be more cautious

Some lists need it more than others. I (almost) always include recce in armoured lists but in pure infantry lists I tend not to bother. It really depends on how susceptable you are to ambuses and how you go about clearing objectives.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I like mine to take objectives and hold them till the other troops make it to them or use them to harass the enemies arty.

Zvezda make 222 armoured cars for about 3 quid each, grab three of them and you're golden/laughing/sorted.

Yeah, technically you need the 223 for the command car but it's fairly insignificant.
IMHO

I don't suppose you have a side by side shot of those for size comparison purposes?

Do not forget that 223 has weaker armament than 222's.

Looking to trade away 15mm Forged in Battle Pumas (still in the box).
