To balance that out, I reserve you a game at Warstore Weekend or Templecon on that board, where you'll be able to beat me to the ground for that great injustice.

Ah, another reason for me to try to make it to the Warstore Weekend! (or TempleCon, which I was at this year for the first time)

Are you using an airbrush for the lighting effect on the rock around the crystals? That is very well done, too

Warstore Weekend is just a "maybe" for now, as I'll be moving around the time of the convention. It will probably be a last minute decision, depending on the exact date of the move. Templecon is a sure thing thought.

Yes. A friend lent it to me for the painting of the board. I'm slowly getting used to it. I'm quite happy with the overall effect for the glows. My main gripes is that I sprayed too thick. I would have preferred to still have some of the colour show underneath the glow, but it the end, it still looks good, so I'm happy for a first try.

Just consider it the 'limitations of working with a 16-bit engine'

God, I'll be so happy with Super Endless: Fantasy Tactics comes out, and we can get some 32-Bit action.

Nah, that'll just bring load times, optical drives will never be as good as cartridge technology.

Painting of the crystals is done, which mean that painting of the board is complete! (outside of the accessories...) With everything painted up, I was finally able to glue down the pieces that weren't yet (back-left elevations and all wooden bridges and platforms. I'll apply a couple coats of varnish tonight, and start to fill the river with resin once it is dry, probably Saturday morning. The end is near!

Amazing work. I love the little vein of crystals (even if it takes a bit of fluff twisting to explain in the setting )

Wow! So is it "done done" now? Can we get a pic with the pillars in place?

Almost! I still have to add the resin (tonight), and it is also missing the accessories (shovels, pickaxe, etc.). I might also go back over the pink crystals' glow effects with a pink glaze, as it's a bit too whitish. I can grab a picture with the columns in before doing the work that is left though, it is no problem.

I believe there will be some resin on the river to prevent it from chipping while in use

As Alf said, it is for the river. Not really to protect it, but more to "fill" it so it has the same height as adjacent tiles, and to add a "watery" look. The product I'm using this time is Realistic Water by Woodland Scenics. It's a first try, so I hope it will comes out ok. I have had problem in the past with two parts resin for water effect, but this one is a single product, so no mixing problem. (Damn you, Gremlin swamps bases not yet dry after 3 years! )

First, just for you RiTides , a picture of the board with the pillars, before the water effect. It has received a coat of gloss then matt varnish since last picture. Followed by a collage of the assembly for the pouring of the first layer of resin. They don't recommend pouring more than an height of an inch at a time, so I'll have to do at least 2 or 3 pour. Last picture of the collage has the product poured in the river.

By the way, anybody has already used it? They don't mention a drying time on the bottle, only that it varies based on temperature and humidity; not really helpful...

Looking good, would it be possible to add some dividers or wire on the last pour to make those lines you wanted designating tiles? Something that can be removed after the pour leaving a slight indent across the top. You might have to give the indent a little wash too if you do it so it shows up. just a dark blue.

We have used WS water and it is much better than the 2 part stuff.

That point was discussed a bit earlier in the thread. I thought about doing something like that, but in the end, as the river is only a square wide with adjacent tiles to judge the virtual lines, I decided to go for the look and have the river unmarked.

Where we're going, we don't need gridlines.

I remember. Thought you'd like the option before it was too late to add.

Oh god, I'm really sorry! I love it without the lines I'm just playing devils advocate! Sorry again, I've been a bit irritable the last couple of days and I think a lot of what I've been posting on Dakka has been a bit negative sounding. Not intentional though, bud.

No offense taken, I didn't read it like that anyway. On a forum, yiu can't be sure another user read the whole thread, and I wasn't even sure if I clearly stated my decison.

That's good, I'm glad! I had just read my posts back and they seemed really negative.

Haha, nevermind! On with the blog!

Here is the result after the second pour. It's not fully cured yet, which explain the "milky" look to it. I think the third pour tonight will do the job to finish filling the river. The resin does contract quite a lot, so it's not easy to judge when pouring. I also started painting the accesories, which should be done tonight, or tomorrow at our painting night (as I'm missing a colour I borrowed when doing the grey) at the latest.
