Yriel strikes me as a very cost efficient character, and I'd really like to include him in a list. I typically run a DE primary detachment with eldar allies. What would be some good ideas on how to run him? Which units does he benefit from the most? Or is he not worth taking?

I think with Psychic powers being so prevalent, most people just auto-include farseers. I think Yriel is good but haven't used him in 6th yet. I'm very afraid of his lack of eternal warrior.

Hes a pretty decent beatstick. His weapon is AP2, wounds on a 2+, and he hits first. You can expect him to deliver 3 wounds to most things.
Without fortune, however, he has a hard time taking hits back. He might die very quickly under bad rolls.
His "eye of wrath" ability is slightly overrated. To pull it off you need a very special set of circumstances.
For 155 points, hes a good beatstick. Hes not on the level of Lysander or Typhus, but hes a solid IC for 155 points.

Is Yriel bad? Definitely not.
Is it worth taking Yriel over the other HQ choices in the Eldar army? Probably not on most occasions.
Eldrad, Farseers, Bike-seers, Avatar, Maugen Ra, and Fuegan are all better force multipliers than Yriel. Aside from +1 to reserve rolls (actually not that good for Eldar, who are typically hiding GJB in reserve and want them to stay there), Yriel offers little except combat ability. The other characters confer nice bonuses via psychic powers and cross over rules.

I throw him in every list i take to tourneys. stick him in a harlequin squad to take flamer hits and detach him every once in a while to go beat up a squad or a vehicle that thinks it can run away. Reserves on 2+ are also huge when i run 1/2 my army in reserve and often 2+ fliers.
BS7 wounds on 2+ AP2 spear is also a pretty huge factor. Sure, he doesnt get the AP2 bonus vs vehicles, but that spear can knock off a model pretty reliably. For 155 points he brings more to the fight than almost any IC of the same point cost bar maybe DC Tycho who is 175

DC Tycho is terrible. He's not an IC so he cannot join any other unit or be joined by other ICs, has no invul save, and no psuedo-jump pack like Mephiston so he only moves 6". So not even worth close to 175 comparatively.

You're right that DC Tycho isn't a good comp to Yriel, but he does at least have a 4++ from his Iron Halo. Still, until he can (at least) join other DCs, he's not worth discussing, so I reckon your point stands.

Unless you have the right list, the avatar will eat a torrent of fire and die quickly. I do agree with you though, whenever I make a list for Yriel, it usually ends up being a list for the avatar, so many more force multipliers and he's better in CC

Because the avatar is slow, doesnt build with any of the competitive lists that eldar can run, and simply gets shot down. You dont waste a fortune on him because you only have 1 farseer and will have more important things to fortune. You wont have many vehicles. so the avatar will see a lot of the AT fire their list can bring.
I was simply comparing Tycho's combat performance, not his ability on the field. I had actually forgotten he lost IC status in his DC form (stupid GW).

I never consider the avatar because I have a dislike of MCs as i think they're a bit to fragile (granted this comes from the perspective of a DE player).
I'll consider the comments for now though. Thanks for the advice.

If Eldrad is in the list then the Avatar is a must include since Eldrad can fortune the avatar and his own unit. The Avatar supporting a unit of Harlequins and maybe some Wraithlords is scary.

Yriel is a nice close combat beatstick. His one ability to strike at everything in base contact makes him hysterical in close combat.
Step 1: Charge into combat alone, issue challenge.
Step 2: (hopefully) kill enemy in challenge.
Step 3: On your next turn, hit everything in B2B with you.
Step 4: ???
Step 5: PROFIT.
That being said, I'd still take a Farseer over Yriel almost every time.

I run the following with pretty good success and would love some input
Yriel
Eldrad
Wraith guard x4
Warlock w/enhance
All in a wave serpent
Group toughness 6, weapon skill 5, initiative 5, 3+ save is really resilient. Having 3 characters w rerollable invuls is really nice.
Typically I run the group forward turn 1 (WS usually survives due to rerollable 4 jink). Turn 2 disembark and shoot.
I WANT to be assaulted because it gives me a guided overwatch and packs a ton of models around yriel. Issue or accept a challenge w the warlock if he survives it's a bonus but since everything resolves in initiative order warlock has done his job by giving the group i5 wp5 for the first round. Warlock sucks up first round of insane hits from whatever champion they have. Yriel lays his blast at i8 killing most everything (only wounds his unit on 4s due to t6). Eldrad swings next at i6, ws6, wound on 2, ignores armor. Wraith guard are now i5 ws5 str5 any wounds they add are gravy. This usually wins combat by a lot and yriel let's you sweep.
Vs fearless the next round eldrad issues challenge, relies on 3++ rerollable while yriel cleans up with 4 swings i8 ws7 wounds on 2 ignores armor. Yriel and wraiths are still really hard to wound and still have either 3+ or 4++ rerollable.
If there is a round 3 or cc then I glorious intervention yriel into the challenge and yriel takes care of whichever heavy hitter was left.
I've had some pretty good results with this and it's pretty fun to have our fairy space elves stand toe to toe with abbadon and grazgul and walk away the victor (happened more than once each).
Three downsides. A HUGE point sink. Must be used very aggressively. When it goes bad it goes very very very bad. But I like the excitement.

Executing Exarch
|
I think the prince got a buff in 6th, as I would ALWAYS lose him in 5th to the lone sarge with a power fist after I cut apart the marine squad protecting him.Now he can call that jerk out, spear of twilight his face, and with I7 he really helps sweep combat in your favor.
His costs are comparable to a tooled out autarch, but he lacks the mobility of the jump pack, wings or a bike. He can trash most MC's, and yriel bombing is stilll a decent option.Still get the master strategist rule for reserve boosts.
The glass cannon nature of the prince makes him just as much a DE hero as an eldar hero. Being S3, he dies to...basically anything, and just in case you thought you survived with a wound left, 50% of the time his spear eats his soul.
He can work in 6th, but it is dependent on your list. DE allies usually need a seer for psychic defense and boosting, and yriel only belongs in bigger games where he can support a squad. He does better in a transport than on foot, but I could see him in some wraithguard or clowns.

Eldrad still casts fortune on himself and his wave serpent and guide on himself. If I get the initiative I start eldrard and company outside so he can guide my reapers before embarking and moving/flat out. A fortuned WS is remarkably hard to bring down

Unfortunately this doesn't work anymore, Eldar Farseers are unable to use psychic powers inside a Wave Serpent. In the latest FAQ it mentions that you cannot use powers that don't require line of sight while inside a Wave Serpent, that means that your squad will disembark from a transport while having no psychic protection, and we all know what happens to Eldar units with no extra protection...

No, he is not worth it.
Superior HQ slots are Eldrad and a Mastery lvl 4 Farseer who you use to roll 4 times on Divination or Telepathy (I prefer the Divination). Eldrad then casts Fortune on the unit being buffed and on a second unit, Guiding a third unit.

Well, Eldrad and Yriel worked well in concert in the 5th ed. but now its a bit questionable.
Imagine Eldrad and Yriel leading a Seer Council disembark from a Serpent. Yriel goes solo charging a unit and Eldrad and the Seers another. Eldrad could doom the unit Yriel is going to charge. Then Yriel may use his eye of wrath to destroy the enemy.
