Hello all,
I recently attended a Nova Invitational Qualifier at Huzzah Hobbies in Loudoun, VA on February 2nd. I wanted to share my three game experience, as it was the first three games of my new Eldar/Dark Eldar list:
Farseer on bike, runes of warding, 4 cheapest powers
Farseer on bike, fortune, runes of witnessing, runes of warding
6 Warlocks on bikes, 5 destructor, 1 enhance
3×3 Guardian Jetbikes
2 Wraithlords, scatter laser, shruken cannon
2 War Walkers with 2x Scatter Laser
Baron
15 Warriors with Splinter Cannon
16 Warriors with Splinter Cannon
Talos with TL Liquifier, TL Splinter Cannon
Aegis Defense Line, Quad Gun
Link to the report is on my blog. Sorry in advance for no pics:

Interesting read. Best use of Hallucination I think I've read/seen to date. It's always tough to get hit on the first turn by drop podding units.
How did you like the Quad Gun? I'll run Fuegan on mine and most other Eldar players I encounter with a Quad Gun have a FD Exarch manning it. Thoughts?
|
No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Fuegan not an uber wast of points on quadgun?

You have ruled this galaxy for ten thousand years
Yet have little of account to show for your efforts
Order. Unity. Obedience.
We taught the galaxy these things
And we shall do so again.

Thanks! It definitely is hard to get hit by pods. I attempted to do my best, but it really is one of the worst match-up problems for the list.
As to the Quad Gun, I didn't really get to use it much. I think I shot it maybe 1-2 times in the event. My opponents always targeted my Warriors early, and many times they were pinned from ignore cover Barrages. I'll have to test it more in the future though. Overall, very inconclusive.
Other than that, I also didn't love the War Walkers. I'll try to post the next two games as well, but suffice it to say, they underperformed majorly. Automatically Appended Next Post: Fuegan not an uber wast of points on quadgun?
I'd imagine he would be better on an Icarus. Still, it is a hefty investment.

Nice list, I'm glad to see the Elves can still punch pretty hard :-P
Good win, any chance of some pictures of your army?

Thanks! Eldar and Dark Eldar are really flying under the radar for some reason. There are a ton of competitive combos that can lay the smack down.
I'm going to try to get some pictures of the army up. I painted it pretty fast to get ready for this tourney (usually I need that kind of motivation). I'm going to go back and do some more detail work later on, but am pretty happy with the look so far. I also converted up the Seers, so I'd be happy to share.

Good report thanks for sharing. Just wondering why your opponent didn't pod in both hunter squads to go after the council? Was that not feasible with your deployment? Personally I'd go balls out to smash the council with everything possible before fortune goes up and he starts going after the blob.

You make a really good point. While it was tough for my opponent to get both pods fully on the Council, he certainly should have shot them instead of the Warriors. I think that he severely underestimated the Council. He did shoot four combi-melta their way, but that really wasn't a great use of them.

The problem with dropping both Pods near the council is that it is conceivable that both units would have been assaulted and then killed. Bolters aren't extremely efficient at killing Warlocks, even if they aren't fortuned. Plus, the best way to beat the council is to remove the support units, especially scoring ones. I think dropping in to kill the warriors is a good move.

This is very true. His large Grey Hunter squad died incredibly quickly, even with a Terminator character to soak up a bunch of wounds. Killing my Warriors quickly did put me in a tough spot. I had to make sure that those Guardian Jetbikes didn't die, or else I was playing a much harder game.

Fair point but I just wonder if the IG/ SW general would have played it differently with hindsight? His blob was almost totally out of the game due to hallucination, so he had very little chance of securing the relic.
If possible I'd have dumped the 2 packs, pods, manticore, mortars and fangs (probably not possible with all of those, but as much as possible) into the council which would have been enough to if not completely destroy it then make it significantly less effective and open to being destroyed turn 2.

I don't believe so. This is usually what gives me First Blood and i typically only have him man it for turns 1,2 and maybe 3 before he leaves it. I found the quad gun is not overly necessary after that.
For example in this battle report, Fuegan and quad gun would most likely have yielded first blood as he shoots a drop pod; twin link, crack shot and tank hunter nearly guarantees it.
But, the cheaper route is FD.

You bring up really good points. The issue that really hurt his ranged stuff was night fight. He was limited by the 36" max range pretty hard (I tried to deploy to do this). In any other game though, it would have hurt.
