Hi all,

I'm posting this here because I'll be using historical models and historical rule sets (Dux Britanniarum, SAGA and possibly Hail Caesar or Medieval Warfare).

Anyway, if anyone here is interested in wargaming in George RR Martin's Westeros, I'm chronicling my efforts http://dilettantegamer.blogspot.com/

Here's a preview of what I'm working on - Lannister elite cavalry (Perry WotR with minor modifications)

For those interested, I welcome your reactions and suggestions here or there.

Cheers!

I'm trying to do the exact thing. I was gonna start with the starks but I have a few questions for you. How did you make the stark archers? They look like fireforge foot sergents with viking heads but where did you get the bows? I was gonna just use there tutonic knights as is for northern equivalents of knights and foot knights for household troops. Do you know where I can get viking heads? and do you know if the dark sword grrm minis are 28mm?

He posts how he made them on his blog

These are comprised of Fireforge Foot Sergeants, Perry WotR arms and bits, and mostly Gripping Beast Hirdman heads. I'm generally happy with the effect that they look more primitive than the Lannister "high medieval" aesthetic. As with Lannister, I will build out eight more of these to use as "levy" in the SAGA translation to Westeros in my first post.

As for Dark Sword I believe so

Glad to help a kindred spirit. Kenshin answered some of your questions. To these above:
a) Viking heads come from Gripping Beast viking hirdmen plastic kits (as does my Rickard Karstark head)
b) Be warned - Darksword GRRM models are 30mm. They stand a head taller than Perry, Fireforge, etc. They would look odd inside a unit, but I have them on their own 40mm bases (like SAGA) that way it's okay, at tabletop distance, for them to appear "larger than life". But that's something I agonized over for some time. In the end, I think they bring character to what I'm trying to do.

I'd be happy to engage further over on my blog.

Although 30mm may actually be beneficial for people who are suppose to be bigger and taller than the average man!

Exactly. And, as I wrote, once they're on the table viewed from 3'-4' away it really disappears.

But that Gregor Clegane model will stand out big time. He's huge. (As he should be.)

I guess Ned Stark would work then. He should have a noble bearing and be slightly taller than everyone else. And How many heads comes with the gripping beast hirdmen box

Sixty to be exact. 14 per 4 sprues plus 2 more on each of the leader sprues. Lot's of bits in those kits. I received my Scots pike men from Claymore Castings yesterday. With a few modest headswaps, here they are:

Cool update. Claymore makes some nice stuff

Though it does make me wish someone would put out some High Middle Ages plastics out besides crusaders. Things like HYW and etc

I couldn't agree more. I suspect it's just a matter of time as boxed plastics moves down from ancients to dark ages through the crusades. Perry's got late covered. Someone's got to do it.

Maybe wishful thinking but seems likely.

Well if the art is to be believed then FF might do it later (though they still need to get on with the muslims!)

ZOINKS! What's the source of that art?!?!?

I'm sure they'll come out with 14th century right after I've painted my last metal model from Perry, Front Rank, Claymore, etc.

Just dropped a benjamin last night on some perry light horse and Agincourt men-at-arms.
