Area has 50 Vis in the Aura. Someone uses a wand or something, which takes 10 vis from the Aura. The closest node now has 40/50 Vis- other Nodes around it then send some of their Vis to that one, replenishing it to 50/50, so those other Nodes each have (if it was 2 other nodes) 45/50 Vis. Those get replenished by other Nodes, which will each have, say, 48/50, and so on and so forth. This process- the voids in the Nodes, the movement of Aura, all that- can cause Flux.

Flux is absorbed by your local Node. Flux is what happens anytime you Infuse something or Brew something in your Crucible-.

You have aspects on everything you put into a Crucible. Say you're making Thaumium ingots. Thaumium requires Metallo and Praecanto. Metallo's easy- throw some Iron Nuggets in. Praecanto is harder- so you use Chiseled Sandstone. This has both Praecanto and Solum. Solum is not used in the process of making Thaumium, so when you make that ingot, however much Solum you had tossed in your Crucible is now released into the Aura- this is Flux, now. Arcane Alembics capture Flux, as can Tallow Golems with Phials- however, almost nobody has been using either of those things, and I'm certain they haven't been using them in the quantities required to keep any Flux from getting out.

So, everyone with full Thaumium armour, everyone with Wands and Tools and Boots and all those other 'cool' things- you've all been contributing, unless you were using a full Thaumic Workshop setup, which I know nobody was. Darkinnit only just got 4 Arcane Alembics set up at Spawn, even.

I know I'm not innocent either, but I've attempted to limit my impact- I only have a single set of Thaumaturgist's Robes, a Wand of the Apprentice (haven't upgraded) and a single Wand of Excavation. I've created maybe a total of 20 Flux. Others, I'm certain, have created probably levels in the hundreds.

Back to what Flux does. Aura Nodes absorb local Flux- but they don't like it. Flux'ed Nodes are all lightning-y and purple, and they want to get rid of the Flux. So they create Wisps, or generate Storms, or give people sicknesses, or spawn giant Zombies. When any of those things happen, the Flux levels in the Nodes goes down. Eventually they'll rid themselves of all Flux, and be back to being Pure.

Flux does not affect Vis levels (to my knowledge) and Vis levels do not affect Flux. The only reason more silverwood trees can help is that it spreads the Flux around more Nodes- and every Node has a threshold of Flux it can hold and purify without releasing it as Wisps or Storms or whatever.- that, and they provide more Vis, faster, to an area, so you can do more enchanting faster, without having to wait for the local Node to fill from further Nodes- you can draw from any/all of the local Nodes, and they refill each other.

The only way Silverwood trees help is if they're surrounding the place the Flux is being caused! So all you TechHeads that aren't using Thaumcraft- you have no business with Silverwood trees- having Aura Nodes near you merely means that the effects of the Flux discharges will be closer, when they happen.

All you Thaumaturgists? LEAVE. The reason the Red Tower is where it is is because that's close to 0,0. Everyone else who's using Thaumcraft seriously should go at least 1000 blocks away. Use Linker books and Nether travel and Speed potions and Boots of the Traveller and stuff to get back to spawn faster. If you need local Thaumic resources or are just dabbling, use the stuff at Spawn or the eventual setup that will be at the Red Tower- these will both have the proper setup to prevent serious Flux escape or Vis drain. Otherwise, you're gonna continue to have a dozen people all draining and corrupting the same 2 or 3 Nodes, and we'll continue to have problems.

If you don't listen right, I'll sic Pimpdidley on you. Booga Booga. (with Darkinnit's permission, of course).

you'll all have to excuse me cause it's the first ever post i have made in a forum... i just read them

it was me who planted the silverwood trees and i have been banned because of the ordeal. The official reason for my banning is duping but that is ambiguous in its self as it is not a rule as i was acting withing the confines of the game. (which has [to my knowledge] always been allowed i.e that crazy decorated stone wall piston glitch)

I decided to take the matters into my own hands because me and 4oursword set up shop in the volcano before the tower was built so close (you guys were warned about building there and how close it was to us) and the terms that were generally agreed upon was that you me and 4 were not to feel the negative effects of thaumcraft.
i had to do something about how to prevent the persistent storms because i was sick of building anything outside for me to get killed by the mobs not despawning.
after asking the thaumcraft people about how to remove the 'bad stuff' they all agreed upon one thing: silverwoods.

so i set off finding them.

after a while i found 7 saplings when dark said i would need about 60. So assuming the situation was so bad that i couldn't get out of the house on most [minecraft] days, i decided i would dupe them.

I understand this was not in the spirit of game, but i personally believe that it is no less in the spirit of the game than someone moaning to an admin to sort out someone else's mess.

the reason i surrounded the volcano was because the response i got from you guys was that they had an area of effect and I just wanted the storms and odd wisp to stop.

I understand the consequences of what i have done but i do believe that no one had anticipated the extent of the damage caused and thus the situation has been a learning curve to all

and for the record, I'm very sour about all this, and believe my banning was unjust and simply an act of 'I'm pissed off lets get rid of him' as i did not break a single rule of the server.

of course i'll answer all questions and stuff though.

I said this before in the PM, but the banning has nothing to do with the aura and is solely to do with the cheating items into your inventory.

The decorative stone block glitch was not duping (it required an exchange of a regular stone brick) and it was only a decorative stone brick, not an intentionally rare item that affects a core component of the game.

I don't really want to discuss my banning further just get the explanation out as to how and why i screwed up thaumcraft for everyone.

Perhaps give him one more shot since it is a test server, so won't matter too much in the long run? Then maybe amend it into the rules to be clearer. That is if he properly apologised.

I'm only saying this because he's probably taking four with him again which can only annoy him a fair bit I imagine. Two people for something sort of trivial compared to most bans have seemed to be for.

Edit: confiscate and destroy the items of course. Perhaps a fine to drive the message home.

You didn't screw up Thaumcraft, you succeeded in fixing the aura, just in a rather cheaty way.

4ourword wasn't banned because 4oursword couldn't vouch him back on. Coolyo did. I've been more lenient to Coolyo, he isn't banned, but no longer has vouching rights.

Wait the silverwood was dupplicated. Huh. Well means i should destroy the silverwoods I currently have, Or i could plant them. or destroy them. :/

Didn't really panic, was just more of oh crap, what the hell is going on. So not really panic anywhere. Though I did leave for the north, though now i have no way of getting back to spawn, apart from walking. (okay i did panic, because nothing seemed to work, though it seems like my spot that i picked spawns wisps every freaking minute. Which utterly annoys the crap out of me. Hence why i planted a silverwood tree to clam down the energies, now i have to make crystal clusters to increase the aura.)

Also i do not exactly know what crystal clusters do exactly do they increase the aura or are they just decorative?

I have a few questions on how to use the mysticraft portals so that way i could learn how to teleport back to my house using a linking book.

Can anyone explain to me how to use the linking book so I may gather any remaining supplies I may have at my old base?

Yeah, I have no idea what StormWarriors was on about either. He kept crying "Framerate, Framerate!" but I couldn't see anything odd going on on my end.

All in all, I think this was a great learning experience- both for the Mages, (learn to study and take your time before doing major works- don't 'spam' infusions) and for everyone in general- don't panic. If something bad's happening on the server, log off for a while, go on the forums about it. Ask, discuss, reach a consensus before doing anything that'll affect multiple people.

If you are both talking about saplings/wood/leaves you collected from the trees before I removed them, then it's fine I'll let it go, but if Frostoman gave you saplings directly then yes, they should be destroyed.

I'd like to day again, me and anvil aren't getting those affects! There NOT coming fr our chunk, infact as a proud owner of goggles of revealing our chunk has flux=minimal/none last time I checked. Stop blaming us, especially you 4oursword.

While I've blamed you in the past, I have not done so recently. The problem is now solved, even though you promised to fix it. And all it cost us was frostoman's ability to access the server. I blame you once again, for a different reason.

I will blame whomever I think the fault lies with. In this case, you for inaction.

Interestingly, in this case, Inaction was part of the proper solution. We halted out thaumic infusions (at least I did) to allow the Flux to naturally discharge. That would actually have worked.

I was also looking in to getting Silverwoods- however, I don't currently have Goggles of Revealing, and so I would be at a disadvantage when attempting to properly fix it.

Regardless--- the problem's fixed now. We must all, in the future, work on keeping Flux levels down (those of us who use Thaumcraft, that is).

by promising to fix the flux i meant tthe ones we caused, and like anvil said, i stopped thaumic works. blame me for your friends mishaps if you will but me, anvil and the triarii have done more than you have for the situation despite the fact htat you should be the one cleaning up your friends mess. Its comical how whenever gak gos down im the blamed guy to you 4oursword and you arent in our chunk so we didnt cause it!

In that case, I apologise. I thought the agreement was that you would fix all Thaumcraft-related issues. It seems I was mistaken.

Anvildude still recommended that Silverwoods were the only solution. Nothing visibly dissipated as long as I was there.

I believe that I will deal with the rain through Forestry.

Ok, I think I'm gonna be leaving this server, and giving up video games for a while, lags killed me too many times, and the 3 games I mainly play this has happened

Planetside 2-been playing this game since it befall and I played the first one, currently refusing to start. Called SOE many times, done hundreds of things and still doing nothing.

Counter-strike-playing for a while, I love it and the series. But bored ever since I've had a inverted movement glitch.

Black ops 2-been playing for 5 days, but for crazy reasons it thinks that I had that game because of the free weekend! Steam are refusing to return the game I spent €60 on!

Ever since I assume the server is in a different country. I'm probably going to have expontential lag. My frame rate went from a solid 50 FPS. to a solid 2 fps. Thats what i was worried about. It was only in the area of the silverwood trees. (when i had my wand out that is.)

Just want to add a few things here:

1) The aura around the place where Anvildude and Pimp/Apostle hang out *was* showing "dangerous" levels of flux. Claiming it wasn't doesn't make it any different. however, the trees have fixed this.

2) The trees don't cause lag. The lag was likely caused by the bluepower engine tower that was flicking off and on causing multiple lighting updates every second. 4oursword has disabled this along with a cobble generator in the basement that was creating unnecessary block updates when an Igneous Extruder would have sufficed. Similarly I'd appreciate it if people try to make their setups be kind to the server, no redpower timers set to 0.2ms, no crazy overcomplicated machines where a single block machine can replace it and please, no infinite chicken generators

3) The server may be in Germany, but it's the exact same server as the one hosting Tekkit, and is in the exact same datacenter as the Vanilla server was until it died.

It does. It actually has one of the best ones, minus Tallow golem helpers. And Dark fixed the whole "No Vis" thing, it seems.

Just an FYI to those dabbling in Thaumcraft- if you right click with a wand on a crucible with stuff in it, and it's not a specific recipe, it'll dump the aspects. If you have some Arcane Alembics, you can capture these aspects. Do it in multiples of 8, and you'll be able to grab the Aspects up in Vials/flasks/whateverthey'recalled- these are pure Aspects (in multiples of 8) that are very, very useful for Infusing things, and can be a way of keeping Flux down. Put them in Warded Jars placed about the area, and you can draw directly from the jars in case you're doing non-multiple-of-8 infusing.
