4oursword wrote:Anyone know any good ways to get the Matter Fabricator working? They're sooooooo slow... when running from ultimate Hybrid Panels... We have ours running off a nuclear reactor. Since a few people have asked about various things recently, I've decided to start compiling a short list of useful links and info: Quarry Quarry: http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Quarry (I disagree with the advice of using Stirling Engines, especially since Quarries are so expensive in GTech. Using Electrical engines will benefit you a lot more. For using them in the mining age, I recommend solar panels to take advantage of the permalight, but you may want to use something like a blutricity wood wind turbine placed at a decent Y co-ord - around Y120-150 works well. Do bear in mind that wooden wind turbines do degrade over time, but it's slow and gradual, giving you plenty of time to monitor your turbine and see how much life its got left. When it has degraded, the iron slab strips will remain in the kinetic generator, so the only things you need to remake are the sails.) Pipes: Quarries will also need pipes. Most people seem to be okay with pipes, but if anyone wants I'll include a little a bit about them here. The only thing really to say at this point is that quarries will pump items through buildcraft pipes automatically, so you don't need a redstone engine and a wooden transport pipe to draw them out. Landmarks: http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Land_Mark (Note that the information about needing only 3 landmarks seems to be wrong. I've tested this in creative and 4 landmarks are still needed as shown in the last picture on the Quarry's page.) Nuclear Reactor Reactor: http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Nuclear_Reactor Reactor Chamber: http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Reactor_Chamber Stable and efficient reactor set-ups: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/more-efficient-completely-safe-nuclear-reactor-setups.3699/#post-46481 (I have tested 3 of the 5 set-ups in this post, and 2 of them (the 100EU/t and the breeder set-ups) ran fine in the last server and are still running fine on this server. The other set-up I tested was the 300EU/t, which isn't on the server yet but has been tested in creative and is stable. I only recommend the set-ups in the linked post since they are the only ones I've actually tested; any other set-ups in the thread are used at your own risk.) http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=7681 (All untested at the moment, but easily done in creative.) Reactor Planner: http://www.talonfiremage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/v3/reactorplanner.html (As far as I can tell the information this gives you is accurate, but I recommend testing every set-up you make here in creative before trying it on the server. When testing, always give the reactor time; never assume that it's safe because it hasn't immediately gone blammo.) Wooden Wind Turbine A few people have asked about mine, but there's not very much info on the interwebz about it. Unlike Quarries and Reactors, using a Wooden Wind Turbine is very straightforward, and all the recipes can be found in-game using NEI (Not Enough Items - the list of items on the right-hand side of your screen when you open your inventory. To check a recipe, go to 'Options' in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen when you open your inventory, and make sure that the top-right button is labelled 'Recipe Mode'. If it isn't, click it until it is. Once it is, you can click most items in NEI and it will tell you how to make them). To make the turbine itself, you'll need a block of iron, a saw capable of cutting the iron (I used a diamond saw, but gem saws may suffice; unsure about an iron saw), a lot of string, and a lot of wood. First, make 3 Iron Slab Strips from the iron block. Next, start making sticks from your wood stocks, but keep a good few plank blocks aside for later. When you have a good amount of sticks, surround a stick with string in a 3x3 crafting grid to make canvas. For a Sail, you need 6 canvas, and for a turbine, you need 6 sails, so get making that canvas until you have a stack of 36. When you have your canvas, put 6 of them in two columns (left column and centre column) on a 3x3 crafting grid; put a stick in the top and bottom slots of the right column, and fill the middle of the right column with a plank block and ta-da, a sail! Repeat that 5 more times, and grab your 3 iron slab strips. Arrange the strips in a column down the centre of a 3x3 crafting grid, an fill the remaining slots with the sails and you get your turbine. "Brilliant!" You shout, "I'm going to go stick it to a block and power stuff!" But wait, there's more! You can't just plant a turbine anywhere on its own; you need a kinetic generator. For this, you need 6 iron ingots, a brass ingot, a blue alloy ingot, and a blulectric motor. The iron is straightforward, and so is the brass, and the blue alloy ingot; the real pain is the motor, which itself needs 6 iron ingots, a blue alloy ingot, and 2 copper coils. Once more, straightforward except for the coils, which each need 1 iron ingot, 4 iron bars, and 4 fine copper wire. Finally, the fine copper fire is made by putting a copper ingot and a diamond drawplate next to each other in a crafting grid. One ingot = 1 copper wire, so you'll need 8. Perhaps the most expensive part of the generator is actually the least used bit: the diamond drawplate, which is made by having a diamond panel (!!!) with an iron slab strip above it, below it, and to both sides (don't fill the crafting grid with the strips). Once you've gotten over having to sacrifice 9 diamonds for a single panel, and you've finally got everything ready, check NEI to see how to put it all together (I gave you the turbine walkthrough, this time it's your turn!) and voila, a kinetic generator! "Now can I power stuff?" Almost, you eager scamps; there's just a few more things to do. First you'll need a battery box; not an IC2 one, but a blutricity one. To make this you'll need 3 iron ingots; a blue alloy ingot; a plank block; and 4 BT batteries. I'm going to leave you to use the wonders of NEI to figure the battery box out. The final part is also the most cruical: the wires that allow power to flow. All you need are your basic blue alloy wires, which you can look up in NEI. Be warned, though: blue alloy wires aren't very efficient over long distances. This loss can be somewhat mitigated through having more wires from place to place instead of one continuous one, but don't go sticking your turbine out in the sticks 100 blocks away from the nearest battery box. It's done! Relief at last! Finally you can go out and make some power! ... Actually, no, you can't, I was lying a bit. There is one more thing if you're wanting to use blutricity to power something like a quarry, and that is a blulectric engine. I hope you didn't throw out your drawplate is all I'm going to say at this point, but NEI has the information you need to make one. Placement of the engine can be tricky, because unlike elctrical or redstone engines, it doesn't automatically face a powerable object if placed next to it. Instead, it will place itself towards the player, so bear that in mind when placing. The same is true for the kinetic generator; it will place facing you as opposed to facing upwards, so you'll have to jump-place or place from a higher Y co-ord. Once you have everything, set it up with the engine powering the object, wires running to the engine from the BB, and cables to the BB from the generator. To place the turbine, simply open the generator's UI by right-clicking on it and place the turbine into the free slot in the middle. The turbine is treated as a semi-solid block, so you cannot walk through the sails and nearby objects will obstruct it but it will let light through for any panels below it, so try and keep the area around it clear. The turbine will pick up wind automatically, but it might be slow starting up. Also, since wind is a fickle beast, you may want to augment your power with some blutricity solar panels (the flat ones with a deep blue surface, number 765 on NEI), especially if you're in the mining age. To pick up the generator, engine, battery box, and any bluletric solar panels, you just need a pickaxe - stone works well. Wires can be picked up by hand. --------- If anyone has any questions about anything else, then google and check the various wikis first.

A small tip about the diamond drawplate. Although it needs 9 diamonds to make the diamond block to cut into panels, you only need one panel for the drawplate (and the drawplate is re-usable).
The remaining unused diamond panels can be put into the crafting grid to get some diamonds back...

Considering getting back into minecraft, havn't really played after the tekkit server and not been active on there for a while.
Is FTB that much of a big difference from tekkit?
Looks harder to get resources but how easy it was to get resources in tekkit was one of the problems imo.

The biggest difference is Thaumcraft 3 replacing Equivalent Exchange as the "Major Magic Mod" of the modpack. Also the addition of quite a few new mods (such as Factorization) and the updating of others (Redpower 3 is rather different from 2).
Also, this server has Gregtech enabled, which is super annoying, but not gamebreakingly hard, considering the alternatives available.

How realistic is this fabricator for making cobble and such?
Also how realistic is it to transfer mass-materials from the quarry age to a build age? (I'm guessing ender chests)

The answer to both questions is Thermal Expansion.
Specifically, the Igneous Extruder:
http://thermalexpansion.wikispaces.com/Igneous+Extruder
and the Tesseract:
http://thermalexpansion.wikispaces.com/Tesseracts
Alternate solutions for item teleportation are EnderChests or Thaumcraft Magic Mirrors
Nothing quite beats an Igneous Extruder (or two or three or 512) for cobble gen. It's much kinder on the server than a vanilla piston cobble generator too, as there are zero block updates.

yeah I knew about the extruder, but was more leaning towards wool/rockwool/my usual construction blocks
and the Tesseract is a cool find, I guess my main gripe with FTB is I need to do so much crafting to experiment with things, when all I needed before was clever use of pistons and redstone

BTW, for those who might be wondering- the big ol' pit in the mining age is mine. I' digging it out with a Wand of Excavation.
Also, what's that big diamond block think near spawn? I right clicked it, and my client crashed.
Plus if anyone has, like, a Vulcanite amulet or one of those drying bombs, I'd appreciate the use of it. I'm trying to get water out of a 42 block cylinder I built in the ocean. I'm currently using Sand.

look on the FTB Client, after highlighting your Modpack, click the 'Edit Modpack' button. find the Twilight Forest and disable it.
Then find the link dark posted earlier and download the version the server wants to run.
You should be fine from there...

After that, you just double click the .exe
Once inside, you just launch the Modpack you want (Ultimate, as thats what the server runs)

You left resources in your shaft (I find Nikolite to be precious), as well as darkness (which Angry Zombies seem to enjoy spawning in), and your menagerie of chests scattered throughout your ugly alteration to my mine.
