Hey Dark, Iustis was wanting to go to some volcano in the ass-end of nowhere and quarry it down the massive amount of basalt we'll soon need. I'm not sure how much you're okay or not okay with this, so I figured I'd ask for them.

I'm generally against quarrying in the overworld*, however, as volcanoes seem to refuse to spawn in the mining age I will allow it on the condition that you stop the quarry once it hits a majority of normal stone. The volcano shaft does go deep into the ground, but is very narrow, so quarrying that will return little basalt.

You can see on this one how the basalt stops after a few layers. I disapprove that this quarry was continued after they got the basalt, but it's too late to undo it now.

* I don't mind Corpses' quarrying of the ocean as he cleared the space with intention to use it. My main objection to quarrying the overworld is the large empty holes left behind. That's why we have the mining age, you can litter that with holes without annoying any neighbours.

Also, we converted almost all our diamond dust in to regular diamonds now. Yay.

The process, for those that have too much diamond dust like we did, is such:

4 Diamond Dust + 32 Industrial TNT (in an Implosion Compressor) -> 3 Industrial Diamond + 16(?) Dark Ash
9 Industrial Diamond (in a Compressor) -> 1 Block of Diamond
1 Block of Diamond (shapeless crafting) -> 9 Diamonds

This allows for diamond bees to be far more useful across all mods, although it does require you to use gregtech, which many people dislike (including myself to some extent). Although really, with the exception of magical mods, all mods should accept industrial diamonds in place of regular ones. That they don't is a serious failure of the modpack.

Yay, thanks! I've never played Minecraft before though, is it going to be a problem?

Probably best if you watch/read some tutorials, mostly about surviving. Try single player out for a bit first, to avoid damaging anything that belongs to someone else (creepers gonna creep). In single player you have the ability to pause the game and it's easier to sleep and skip the night.

The plain Dakka Minecraft server may be a better place to start before moving into FTB, as it adds lots more complexity.

Of course there may also be someone who'd love to show you the ropes.

why dont you just compress coal into diamonds?

Because we had many ,many stacks of diamond dust that couldn't be used outside of certain IC2 recipes.

FtB add a lot of content to the vanilla game. Basic minecraft can be confusing at first to get into as it is... But I suppose you could just do what I do and play FtB like the base game, and integrate the modded items/concepts in as you go along. At its most basic the game doesn't really go much past "find shelter, don't die, turn shelter in to silly castle/moon base/ giant crater in the ground".

I'd also say look into the modular power armor mod, it's relatively cheap to get into and is pretty useful.

My structure's made of reinforced stone at the moment. Iustis' place might be vulnerable at t he moment ,but that'd be easy to fix, most of the important stuff is underground surrounded by double layers of stonebrick anyway (which proved a wise decision when my first industrial grinder blew up from providing it too much power, and destroyed both of those layers but didn't touch the other machines)..

Pay attention to lava progress this weekend as I test diverting piwer to it

I'll start readying the void shield for the island.

Also after running around the volcano quarry, I'm thinking liquiducts could make a good light system.
