LordofHats wrote:Right now its listed as being for 360 and PS3. People are being far FAR too ambitious with the next gen consoles imo. I personally doubt they will be releasing this year (either way we will likely know for sure come E3). Even if they do, Bungie has been working on this game for about 2 years roughly speaking and I also personally doubt that it'll release this year either.
I have to correct you on one thing, the game has reportedly been in the works (conceptually mostly) since around the release of Halo 3 in 2007 and was well on the table when talks with Activision-Blizzard began pending Bungie's release from their contract with Mircosoft after Halo: Reach in 2010. Bungie has been specifically tight-lipped with this one, members of separate design teams didn't know what the others were doing until very recently, with only the upper echelons of the companies getting to see the big picture. Bungie traditionally holds to spending 3 years flat working on each of their games, Activision is looking to release Destiny in 2014, which places it having 7 years of production under its belt. (I just wanted to state that the fact that it is getting 7 years is significant because Bungie idolizes the number 7 like a mad cult.)
As for the new generation of consoles, the last rumor I heard said that Sony would do a reveal on a new console this week. No idea how reliable of a rumor it was but it generated some buzz.

Well, it looks ambitious. I have a horrible feeling that the game is going to be ripped to shreds simply by not being able to live up to the absurd hype. Remember what happened to poor, poor, poor Aliens: Colonial Marines.

There's a huge difference between what happened to Aliens: Colonial Marines and the usual "not being able to live up to the absurd hype".
Colonial Marines was a six year project that was constantly shelved and then later restarted whenever someone had a "good idea" that they felt should be in the game. Then Gearbox just stopped working on it, ported it to several different studios to work on and then Gearbox worked on Borderlands 2 instead.

You have to take into consideration that Colonial Marines isn't very good for today's standards, it was done being programmed YEARS ago they hadn't worked on it since and all the money that was supposed to go towards shipping and advertising went elsewhere.
Bungie has one of the best design, programming and community support teams in the modern era of video games. That said, Activision doesn't have my full trust yet and I'm hoping that Blizzard holds up their end of the game.

I'm less concerned about that than normal as the agreement between Bungie and ActiBlizz is very unusual and seems to have been purposefully designed to allow Bungie to make the game they way they want it to be and Activision can only take it when its done.

I see where you're coming from but Better examples would be Halo 2, MGS2 and Diablo 3. All decent/great games but victims of their own hype.

^Agreed with Diablo 3 being a good example
Halo 2 however was horribly rushed throughout its creation which lead to a large amount (I believe the last 1/3) of the game's planned campaign to be cut out and replaced with the now famous cliffhanger.

Yeah... I didn't see much of a correlation with 40K, even after it was mentioned.
Looks like an interesting game though. Bungie does good work (so far), so I hope they keep the trend up.

This looks like a pretty neat idea then again I love post-apocalyptic settings ever since I've got into Mad Max and the Fallout series, I don't think I've been this interested in a Bungie game in along time. Don't get me wrong the first Halo game was amazing for it's time but the sequels didn't
really introduce anything that new, I mean in terms of game play (obviously not graphics) Halo Reach feels like a 12 year-old game plus most of the Halo games as a single player experience feel boring and generic to me, although they're almost always great multi-player wise.

Nice trailer, but I agree about being jaded. A really cool pre-rendered trailer doesn't do much for me.
Also, not being a console gamer if it isn't gonna be a PC release I could care less then.
And Bungee kinda irked me back in the day with the Halo 1 hype, being initially touted as a PC game, only to deviate into X-Box territory once they got their internet moneys from Microsoft. Kudos to them for striking gold with their successful Halo series, but I just can't get into newer console games.

It's interesting for sure, but with little or no details being released (aside from vague "It's going to be awesome!"), I'm skeptical. Granted Bungie owned face for years with the Halo franchise so they know how to make a first person shooter, but building a giant galaxy that lives and breathes on it's own? Action RPG style?
I hope it's good, I want it to be with every fiber of my gamer-being.

Honestly it sounds like Halo meets Dark Souls with how people can come in and randomly kill you if they want.
I'm looking forward to it, unless the put a subscription fee on it. I don't do $15 a month.

Likely because Bungie does not actually "own" Halo anymore?
Microsoft does, and they have a studio dedicated to Halo games in the form of "343 Industries".
Could never understand why such a generic FPS was considered to be so brilliant.
Probably has something to do with the fact that because at the time of Halo: Combat Evolved, it was not actually that generic?

1) Generic how?
2) They completed the story they wanted to tell with Halo, and unlike most companies/developers, they were willing to let go of it.
Also, does anyone know where I can easily get a copy of Oni? I've always been interested in that game.

Excellent point right here, Halo seems generic now because it's the origin point of almost everything shooters have been copying since Combat Evolved came out.

Couldn't agree more.
Do we know anything else about this game like fluff? The Art looks great BUT.
It reminds me alot of my concept idea for my short story Black Ink.
As long as they don't make a slime creature that uses the bodies of the dead and uses it as a puppet while it absorbs all living material. I'm happy either way.

I pre-ordered at GameStop to get the free poster (which they handed me right then, and I only had to put down $5... and they said I can change the system later if I end up getting a PS4).
My question is, is it going to be worth playing on a PS4? Will the graphics be about the same as on the Xbox 360 and PS3? Will the multiplayer be limited to only playstation, or only xbox, or only PC... or is there any chance at cross-system compatibility??
So many questions... I am very excited for this game. Will try to stay interested in Halo 4 until then...
